This drama deserves all the flowers. The cast too. Everyone brought their A-game to their characters. I didn't come to this drama for nuance or moralising. I came for the revenge plot and it delivered big time. The FL set out to dish judgment on her enemies and she did.
A most satisfactory ending. I was determined to hate Hye Seong to the end but the writers did me dirty and made her so cute with Yun in that final episode.
Love that the mum got her comeuppance. None of that forgiveness without repercussions. The actor did a fantastic job of playing a deadbeat mum. The tender moments at the end were sad but didn't distract from the character's overall rot.
Maybe the music was good all along and I didn't notice but it caught my attention in eps 15/16. So good,
I'm a huge fan of narratives that just pick up from somewhere and don't feel the need to delve into backstories. This drama does it really well. We don't know too much about the characters but we get to know them through their reactions to the situation they're faced with.
I'm curious about something and hope someone can explain it. Why were the kids training in their school uniforms and not more comfortable clothing? They have gym wear.
i think this has the most realistic set of high school teenagers reacting to a crisis. no one is inherently evil…
Agree. I've lived through two two conflict situations and have seen adults do dumb shit that could get them killed and that's in the face of human beings with guns. Not to talk of aliens that just want to kill you and that you have next to no information about. The development of all the characters is 10/10, even the immature and mean ones.
Maybe because I'm used to smarter villains, I can't accept that the stepmother is just a big bully moving like a bulldozer because she wants to cement her position in the family so what she did to Shin's sister won't befall her. I don't even think she likes her husband that much.
I am obsessed with this show. It's been a long time since I've had a romance drama pull me as much as this one does. Love the characters (of course except for the asshole friend and ex).
I'm more than happy to hate Hye Seong for Woo Joo. She's moving like a bloody trapezium. I'm not a fan of first child "responsibility" but unfortunately, the hierarchy happens whether you like it or not. Nature abhors a vacuum so someone will always step up among siblings if the first child doesn't. That has been Woo Joo all along while Hye Song did whatever. Now she wants to step up and be the responsible older sister after pretending not to notice WJ was doing all the emotional work for the family. And I'm supposed to feel, what, sorry for her? I understand her reaction to finding out who Dong Jin is but her selfishness is just so front and centre, it's all I can see right now.
"You tried to throw Soo Kyum away. Now I know how you feel. The baby hasn't been born yet but I want to throw it away."
Am I the only one who understands where the FL's brother is coming from? We may not have seen it but from his words, I can imagine the FL's reaction when he brought home a baby. She might be the best aunt right now, but she wasn't always like that. Of course, I'm not saying he has to pay back in the same coin. He just knows firsthand what being pregnant/having a child will mean for his sister. I don't think it's hypocritical in any way.
I'm a big advocate of disappointing your parents early on so they don't have any expectations. Parents will have the most oversized reactions for their "good" kids which doesn't make any sense. The mum hitting the FL and throwing her out of the house? Totally a selfish parent move. "You have taken away my dreams of a perfect daughter so you should be punished."
Well, it wouldn't be a Kdrama weekender without an evil female character. And aren't we lucky? This drama has…
"Every time she clutches her chest, you hope it's because she's dying. " I commented on another forum that I hope she keels over and dies. But of course she won't. More chest-clutching await us in the future, yay.
I love the fact that Attorney Shin stays winning. Like the writers dodged that trope of making the main lead lose a lot to the villain and then win at the tail end. Of course, I'm not discounting the loss of his sister. That's huge.
So simple and cute.

In all, a drama well worth the watch.
Hill I'll die on though: the FL should have disappeared after ep 2.
