This has been on my watchlist for several months (because of Yoon Hyun Min) and was finally able to watch because it returned to Kocowa.
Ma Yi Deum, the FL, is intended to be sassy and clever. Based on comments below, some viewers loved her character and others did not. I did not find her charming, but I wasn't repulsed enough to drop. (I dropped another Hyun-min drama because I couldn't stand the FL). Yeo Jin Wook, the ML, was intense, smart and, unfortunately, a bit smitten by the FL. They both got to play hero from time to time and their flirty comradery was frequently engaging.
The drama is from 2017 which means the standard was 16 episodes, whether the story deserved it or not. As reviews noted, the 1st half of the drama was fascinating for those of us who like the courtroom dynamics. The 2nd half was full throttle makjang as the good guys work to destroy the #1 bad guy. This would have been better at 12 or even 14 episodes.
Happy ending(s) for all the good guys. I'm giving it 7.5⭐
I was impressed that in a clip I saw SJ says to JH: "leave that family alone, they already suffered too much"…
It was only a couple of weeks ago that many viewers (including me) believed that Se-Jin was going to either attack YD and the baby OR try to commit suicide. And now it's all disappeared and we didn't get a single scene that even attempts to explain her attitude change? Really, really bad writing.
Characters Se-jin and Joon-ha, despite being involved in infidelity, are portrayed in a way that surprisingly…
Interesting article - it appears this was written around Episode 27?
My favorite episodes were 20-30 when joon-ha and Se-jin were failing miserably in their schemes and also fake dating while between themselves pretending to hate each other. Most viewers FF through those scenes, but I did not and the dialogue was fun as they pushed each other's buttons. The BTS scenes from the art museum are also fun to watch as all four of the leads joke w/each other.
Like everything else, the next 12 episodes were garbage for every character.
The same thing bothered me too. The only other "logical" explanation I can think of is that she knew what it was…
That may be a reason, but then the writer should have had SisterSister explain that to him. However, writer-nim has subtly supported adoption in Korea - so to use that excuse would only reinforce the prejudice, as in "don't adopt, your child will be discriminated against." The message SHOULD BE - don't hide adoption; a child deserves to know where he came from.
Well, I've talked myself into believing JH will now submit his DNA. We shall wait and see.
Nothing surprises me anymore from this writer. You know, you’ve probably jinxed it but putting this logical…
Pretty sure the final scripts are written and they have either wrapped up or are close to wrapping up the final episode. Photo (outdoor scene) on twitter from two weeks ago showed up this past weekend in the drama.
I think that at least one more shoe will drop, because we were told that we would need to watch until "the end". Maybe JH's bio mom submitted her DNA at some point???
Honestly what's the point of adding a new counter and then letting him being outshined by everybody?
In a recently published interview, In-soo (the actor) said the following about his character:
"[Jeok Bong] is a new counter who joins the existing team. It’s a “newcomer” that we’ve experienced or will experience at some point in our lives. Everyone has a time when they are immature and inadequate. We want to do well, but when things don’t go our way, we whine to ourselves, and we do things differently than we intended. I hope that some people will sympathize with them, and some will be comforted. You can’t be good the first time or everything is perfect."
In-soo in my favorite, so I am also disappointed that they haven't shown him gaining power/strength over all - especially since Jeok Bong was remarkably strong in webtoon. I think the reason is that he was already committed to three other projects that were filming during the same months as UC2, so he was juggling quite a bit. Either Studio Dragon or tvN wanted him badly enough that they worked it out.
God Almighty I watched Ep. 46 subs for the Joon-ha scenes (actor Jung Eui Jae is doing great) but was so pissed for the following reason - and it's related to the fact adoption in Korea is still not mainstream acceptable:
Adopted: Strawberry. SHE always knew she was adopted. SHE still had the baby clothes from when she was dropped off at the orphanage. SHE submitted her DNA 20 years ago in the hopes of finding HER biological family.
Adopted: Strawberry's son (Kim Joon-ha). So, even though SHE knew she was adopted, she never told her son that he was??? WHAT THE HELL?? Thus, HE never knew he was adopted. And his EFFIN' Freakin' mother (and Sister Sister) never thought that he would find out? Never thought to submit his DNA in the event he would want to know about HIS bio family.
They've jumped the shark time and again with other characters and I didn't give a s**t but this is simply unbelievable that an ADOPTED mother (who wanted to locate her own bio family) would keep that info from her ADOPTED son. And it's even equally unbelievable that Sister Sister would keep that info from her adopted brother.
I spent too much time last night thinking about this and I can come up with only one purpose for this twist - Joon-ha is going to submit his DNA to the "missing person DNA base". And that's how we will find out his family history "if we watch to the end" as promised.
I still maintain - and will to the absolute bitter end - that TK and JH are brothers. But, what do I know - I'm…
Viewers were told we must watch to "the end" to find out JH's family history. The connection to Strawberry was revealed too early. Last night, I watched part of Episode 45, re-watched a couple of scenes from other episodes from long ago and wrote this up.
The ORIGINAL plot was always the brother connection. Strawberry was a diversion. Although it's possible that writer decided to throw it all away because he's afraid of big, bad scary netizens , I still believe he think he's sticking to original plot that JH family history will be revealed at "the end".
Is it only me who's annoyed that the new counter Na Jeok Bong played by actor Yoo In Soo isn't getting proper…
UC2 filmed from November (or late October?) 2022 thru April 2023. During that same time, Yoo In Soo was ALSO filming: Good/Bad Mother; Daily Dose of Sunshine and You Did Great (a movie).
I am also very disappointed but apparently they (tvN? Studio Dragon?) really wanted In-soo for the part so they worked around his other commitments.

Episode 30, Mark 20
SJ Mom: "What do your parents do?"
JH: " I don't have any parents. I'm basically an orphan"
Joon-ha also twice mentioned his "dead" mother in a couple of the earliest episodes.
