Exactly my thoughts. I was wondering if anyone else found the romance pretty lacklustre with little to no chemistry...everything seems to be too smooth, no conflict. Even other depictions of healthy relationships i've enjoyed in the past had some level of tension and chemistry that made it enjoyable to watch but it feels like it's lacking life somehow here...
Will this be anything like Seven Relics of Ill Omen in terms of found family, friendship, adventure and subtle romance?? Ive been looking for more of that since Seven Relics...
Did i watch all 36 episodes on 2x for mu tianji and yan xiao? Yes i absolutely did. Was it worth it? 100% percent yes. So if anyone has more recs with this exact dynamic of push and pull between two characters who obviously have all the feels for each other but the man keeps delaying things from his end coz he's a gigantic idiot, *plssss* recommend them to me 🙋♀️🙏
Wow the cinematography in this is spectacular. Some of the scenes are so visually striking and memorable that I feel like they'll need to be taught in film schools...
Like the one where Chang's mentor rushes out through the smoke after the subtle buildup leading to that moment, or the breaking of ice and all of them plunging into the water near the climax.
Beyond the well written plot, performances, editing and pace, the frames and direction are what makes this show worth watching. I'd say Kingdom as a series is a masterclass in directing a huge number of extras and large groups of people through a cohesive storyline. You can tell every department came together equally to create this masterpiece.
Netflix sequels are unpredictable and since it's already been 6 years, i dont have much hope for a s3. But i hope the renewed interest in new Netflix shows like The East Palace will have audiences find Kingdom too and maybe the makers will be pushed towards a s3 more seriously!
Idk if it's just me but it feels like this show is being promoted a lot on social media amd youtube. Usually u dont see this for smaller budgeted mini dramas. The last one that had this was Absolute Value of Romance and that turned out to be one of the best this year for me so I'm really excited to check this out too...
Why did i wait so long to watch this?? That first episode alone could've been a whole movie. I felt so many things from excitement to fear to shock to disgust to sadness and again fear. Really excited to see the rest !!
Ahh so sad to see this end 😭 totally unexpected find but I loved it from start to finish. The ending teases the possibility of a sequel but i wonder if they will do it and how long it will take if they do bring a s2? 🥹

That's also true...if they planned it for 8 episodes from the beginning tho, i dont think it will be a huge problem. The problem is usually when they have to compromise after filming's already begun and then start cutting corners for any reason :(
