There's this saying "A mad throws a big rock into a well and a hundred wise can't bring it out!" This is the story of the 2nd prince here. He was banished to the border and instead of doing something reasonable about Beipan people to both redeem himself in front of his father and to make himself a hero for the people but what did he do? He was there for like 2 days and already schemed with them to attack his own country.(Not a good quality for a monarch)
Worse than that he brought them with himself and just told them attack five minutes later. Why so rushed? You can go there, change your travel clothes, stretch your legs, have a tea....THEN you can send the signal but no, he was one leg inside the gate and his attendant was already sending the signal. I was like WTH??π§π¬
One other thing is that in this drama we had martial arts so advanced it was like watching a JiangHo drama with all these flyings, face changing, miraculous medicine, not dying of fatal wounds, etc (you know better) and people and messages all went around so fast like they sent emails and fax instead of pigeons and horsesπ€¦π»ββοΈπ€¦π»ββοΈ but suddenly the most important message in this drama which could've saved them a lot of trouble takes normal realistic time, even longer than that, to reach the border.
AJTL has high quality writing but there are flaws that leaves a bitter taste in the viewers' mouth. IDK how to say it right but I feel there is an unbalancy beteeen the main plot and substories. We spent a lot of time on characters' study, romantic conversation, jokes, etc but things about the main plot were wrapped up very quickly like Empress' death reason, 1st prince's set up and death in ep.27, An Di's exposure and Ruyi's 2nd death and lastly this Beipan attack. Those people first appeared in ep. 18 or 19 iirc, they could make it a more detailed and flashed out plot but left it for nearly 20 eps. only to bring them back rushly to have an epic last fight.
I really don't mind about deaths in shows but the manner of it is important for me and I've got a feeling I'm not going to like them much here.
Based on his name in cast list I'd guessed he'd be their son. They said CY got a son and I was wondering about that. Turns out they'd seen them together.
Agree. To add, they are from Ludiao Hall, so they live dangerous lives and can be killed in any action/mission…
To answer your both comments, you're quite right. Wu di is young and he seems to be newly throned. (In flashbacks for Chu, An and Wu alliance against the Beipan, Wu di was another man.) He has his brother taking power at home and his wife is unexpectedly pregnant and he is a prisonor. He knew with those two, no one wanted him home so his paranoia got better of him. He indeed wanted to write that edict tight away but given NYZ's previous imprisonment he thought it's better to hold a leverage on Liudao hall people so they have no other choice but to save him.
He can be redeemed if they give him a mini redemption arc. I don't think if he returns safe and sound, many would object to him being the Emperor. We must wait and see what they'll do next.
He sacrificed his own mother, what could we expect from such a character π
Seems they unknowingly went straight to a trap and now they'll going to be attacked. That idiot couldn't have been banished that long, it couldn't be more than 2 weeks, a month at most. Who would be so rash to do this except this idiot who's spent all his life in the palce and isn't familiar with double checking.

A leak said he would throw himself and the emperor from a cliff, if they do it I would be very disappointed in both him and the writer. Not only those who died to protect Wu di, it would make all their journey and dangers they faced go awry and become meaningless.

The bar is so low they have to crawl under itπ yes, at first he wasn't feeling bad but being alone seems to have given him time to reflect on his actions, we can only hope he wouldn't suffer a relapse later.
Yes. That is the bigger plot hole imo, it's true that they were from different paths but he said Chai Ming pestered him all the time, couldn't they say something is weird there? Maybe they weren't close then to see them togetherπ€NYZ was the cheif , he knows every little details and secret about everyone but still not about his old friend? (Maybe he knew but I won't count on it)

Nothing much tbh, but he was a child then, NYZ said 14-5 so he's 19-20 now. Still a child but much more irresponsible and selfish. His action is even worse than his father.

It was a war, even if not saving Wudi, they still could die. As guilty as the emperor is and he deserves to feel is for the rest of his life, it was indeed over melodramatic.
