Episode 28 mashed a lot of chapters from the novel that it made me want to read it again once the drama finishes.…
Watching how they sped up last few episodes...seems like they prolonged the 1st part of the show way then necessary. I'll reread the novel again after the show ends as well.
His character in the novel is way more colder, not so emotional.

Yes, the uncle is Chancellor Wei Yan. He was a general, just like ML's father 16/17 years ago. Wei QiLin ,FL's father ,was bought by a Wei family as a slave when he was young. He was very talented and thanks to his martial arts he became part of Wei family military, even got the rank of commander general. ML's and FL's mothers were best friends, and while QiLin served under ML's father, he met and fall in love(and married) with General's Meng daughter.
16 years ago: the Emperor had along with other kids *Crown prince ( the one who died at the battlefield with ML's father, he is Qi Min's father) and *16th prince ( who was his favorite son with Jia consort, but that son also died at the same time as Crown prince).
Wei Yan and ML's father were disciples of general Qi( one of the most influential military family),and Wei Yan was close to General Qi's daughter. After general Qi died, Emperor took Qi's daughter to be one of his consort.
Emperor with Consort Jia made a plan to make 16th prince to get the throne...they gave Wei Yan the fake half of military tally,to get support on the battlefield (Wei Yan sent it by Wei QiLin), but he stayed because (now) Consort Qi was in danger. To cut it short... Crown prince and ML's father died while waiting for the reinforcement and food. Old general Meng and Wei QiLin wee instructed to save 16th prince, and that's why they were delayed. Fake tally didn't match with the other half that was in Sui Lord's hands, so the army couldn't be dispatched. In all that mess, 16th prince died as well. General Meng to atone himself, died. In the palace, Crown princess made a fire, to help her son to get away ( as they killed her husband, her son is next in line for the throne), and that's how Qi Min was sent out to Sui family, as Sui older son. Wei Yan couldn't save Consort Qi,so he made a coup to remove Emperor, consort Jia and their followers. After that he put the unworthy prince to be an Emperor. To make a court strong agan, he never said the truth who are the real culprits are nor he cleared the name of general Meng. He also never wanted to dirty the name of Consort Qi. Wei Yan's sister (ML's mother) never knew the real truth. She hanged herself to protect ML.
Wei Yan raised ML for 16 years to be a better than him, astute and strong. Even though at the end f his life, Wei Yan said he would kill ML, but that was just to make ML even more ruthless. Before Wei Yan died , he got into the dream....or it wasn't a dream, it was reincarnation??He got at the time when he was young general, still at the military, with everyone of his friends and family alive. Last extra chapters were about Wei Yan making different moves, saving general Qi, ML'S father and Crown prince. Then there's a story how their life goes ..How ML and FL grow up with their par, how they met and got feelings for each other and how FL decided to pursue her wish to become a general.

In the novel, he wasn't a traitor. That latter was just corresponding between the uncle and the general who asked for a backup. Uncle was framed, and the military tally he sent with FL's father seems to be fake. Anyway, they all were framed by the old emperor...crown prince, old generals, ML's and FL's fathers, uncle WeiYan....I don't know if they'll leave everything the same in the show
I wanted that bear hunt as well. But what irritates me even more is how they made her use Sui guy to take rations…
No, no,those 108 lashes are way later in the story ( after they got to know her parents identity and they broke up). The only reason for adding those lashes now is for her to feel guilty, as he is wounded because of her and that's why she will drug him and replace him on the battlefield. But at the same time, it doesn't make any sense, he is already wounded.. staying with the same plot like in the novel would be more than enough. It seems they'll change 2nd part , for who knows what reason... and it's a shame. They could've cut some unimportant parts from the 1st part of the show... Indeed, story followed the novel, but it was too slow and long.
