In the novel, there was no pig squad, no fake Marquis, no punishment for her doings. She was strong, brave and smart. In the show, seems like everything is child's play and fun.

No, it doesn't follow the novel. In the novel, she stole the rations and food. She never had contact with SYQ in the camp ( he later was rescued, but that doesn't have anything with her). She knew her place, yet they made her character in the show way too much inappropriate.
