I loved this when I watched it, only just a couple of years ago (I’m late to Cdramaworld.) But recently discovered the novel which has a transmigration theme! My genre! I came back a watched again as I was reading and can understand all the changes made and still love the drama but the novel is so richly written I can’t love it enough. Drama : The Story of Minglan 8.5/10 Novel: The Legend of the Concubine's Daughter: It Ought To Be a Red Flower Amongst The Leaves (The Story of Ming Lan) 10/10
It's good but very frustrating to watch. It almost drove me crazy. Watching this after yanxi palace and empresses…
What the other commenter said was very good but I just want to add Minglan is a transmigrator in the novel who is wary and watching and listening and learning how to survive in a 5yo body of a girl whose mother had just died in childbirth. Her wariness is so much understandable when you know that she only wants to survive in a world where women have no say. She plays dumb for fear of being singled out. Having attention brought on her would mean even more attacks. This adaptation is very good but the novel really delves into her mindset and also how she will watch a situation, let it escalate to trap the wrongdoers. It lets people underestimate her.
I didn't trust the reviews, so I watched it myself, but I couldn't stick with it. Tastes are subjective, so I…
Thank you , kind person. I appreciate that you’re a grownup as well. And intelligent. And discerning. This is absolutely the best comment I’ve ever read on MDL. I wish all MDL commenters were as insightful instead of acting like bickering children. The comment section on most pages is like kindergarten “no I didn’t you did” spats. I also refrain from rating dropped dramas because how can that be an honest rating? Seriously, too, I want to copy/paste your comment as my feelings on other dramas.
I was confused with the handholding and a reference or two made me think she was his wife. And in beginning of ep3 he refers to taking a secondary consort meaning Jia Yu. That means he already has a wife.
Crown Prince has me snort laughing. I hope he doesn’t lose that the further along we go. He’s so blatantly trying to win her over. I wish they’d have him pop out that jade hairpin at odd times beside the book scene.Like the snow scene would’ve been good. Just keep trying to give it to her lol Y’all caught the symbolism he said right? It’s given to the primary wife. Per Google ai-“a jade hairpin is a highly intimate symbol of a proposal for marriage as a primary wife. When exchanged between lovers, it serves as an eternal promise of devotion, fidelity, and a lifetime commitment, with the giver promising never to fail or betray the recipient.“

PS oops I misspelled republican in my search term. Also the CCP can thank the warlords for creating the perfect environment to win over the citizens.

The whole plot of the novel was their misunderstanding. It was torture.

I’m only 24 minutes into first ep. Hope it gets better.
Thanks for replying
