So I really enjoyed this in the beginning, the dynamic between the prince, monk and the fire guy (i'm bad with…
The romance, the journey, the characterisation, more or less is not too far from the novel itself.
If I may defend Sikong Qianluo, she grew up as a pampered young lady, fully spoiled not only by her father but also by the whole city. But at the end of the series, she grew up and became slightly mature although still held her fiery temper [which was inherited from her deceased mother].
The romance is indeed not the focus of the whole story but it does exist between those 2 pairs. I think the author wanted to emphasize that sometimes there can be mutual attraction between 2 very opposite personalities.
As for Wuxin, his portion in the series is not much different from the novel. He had his own personal agenda, to see his mother, ask some questions, and perhaps took her away [if possible] so he didn't fully assist Xiao Se on his journey. Even so, he had a deep bond with Xiao Se and Lei Wujie, especially with Xiao Se.
Basically the focus is Xiao Se's journey to defend Beili, cleared out his uncle Langya Wang's name and uprooted the real mastermind behind his uncle's death.
He was accompanied by his closed friends and confidantes in which 4 of them were his guardian as well.
I think since the characters were mainly teenagers in between 15/16 to 22/25, their temper, personalities, and behaviours were in line with their ages, and family background/education.
So, the romance, the presence/non presence characters wasn't made to attract audience or whatsoever, but everything followed the novel as close as possible.
Feng Shao Feng's version of Di Renjie is really good. I haven't seen any Di Renjie's better version after those old goodies movies about this character.
I hope there won't be any unnecessary romance throughout the series.
after watching dashing youth, i almost spit out my food from the surprise of seeing baili dongjun and sikong changfeng.…
If you often watch Cdrama and notice, those 2 senior actors often act in the same series and their characters [whatever the series is] retain the similar silly behaviour despite their wise and magnanimous appearance.
Old Baili Dongjun act as young Baili Dongjun's father in DY.
So sorry, I think my reply a bit out of topic but I do like those 2 senior actors. Sometimes so silly and funny as well. π¬π
so does that mean the game never existed at all? or was it just reset after they reached the 12th door? iβm…
Hi there, allow me to respond to your confusion with my own interpretation.
There are actually 2 sides of opinion/comprehension about this series.
One side [the majority] believe that everything was just LJS's dream [based on when he had a car accident and was in a coma]
Another side [the minority, including myself] believe that everything was real, really happened in their life.
So, after the game was purified, everything returned to the normal world before the game exist. Everyone didn't retain the memory of their life inside the virtual game world [except Ling Jiushi].
Ling Jiushi felt devastated of losing Ruan Lanzhu and his Obsidian family, so he worked and spent 50 years to rebuild the Spiritual Realm.
Once he succeeded, he decided that he wanted to live and stay inside the Spiritual Realm with his Obsidian family.
That is a bit of my understanding, hope it helps ease your confusion πππΌπ
Can someone please explain why ke got stuck in the game?
She was injured and dying inside the door, and she supposedly died if she left the door.
It was explained on the Lady in The Rain scene [after they helped to bring xiong qi out of the painting] that someone managed to save Xiao Ke's life but she could only live and survive if she stays inside the doors.
The old/original version was 78 eps/20mnts duration, then it was repckaged into 38 eps/40mnts duration. There's no difference for the content only additional opening and closing song at the 38 eps.
Genuine question. Should i watch the series or just read the novel ? Which is worth it?
Novel : - How to survive in netherworld [the participants are those who are gravely ill/dying.] - More scary/horror/gore scenes. - More romantic scenes for sure. - The characters can be considered more ruthless in order to survive this ordeal. - Happy Ending.
The Drama : - It is made into the game world. The participants are those who had registered/logged into the game. - Less scary/horror/gore scenes [good for those who can't stand this theme] - The romance can be felt through some hints and gestures/expressions. - The characters are more humane [probably closer to human relationship/interactions in daily life, not just to survive the game.] - Very bittersweet ending.
Both the novel and the drama are worth to read and watch.
If I may suggest, if you can stand this scary/horror/gore theme, you should watch the drama then read the novel.
I personally read the novel 2x, and always skipped the scary/horror parts. I watch the drama for umpteenth time. So yeah, I'm more into the drama [healthier for my soul coz I can't stand scary/horror theme.]
Happy reading and happy watching.. πππΌπ
If we follow the timeline of the story, the arrangements will be : 1. Dashing Youth 2. Blood River 3. The Blood of Youth
Each drama can be watched as a stand alone story although there are lots of intersections among characters since they shared the same universe [Beili Kingdom Universe aka Zhou Munan Universe]
If there's a bit continuation of the story then it might be from Dashing Youth to The Blood of Youth.
Zhou Munan [the author] wrote The Blood of Youth, then continued with Dashing Youth, and the last is Blood River.
That is why there are some inconsistencies between Dashing Youth [Baili Dongjun generation] and The Blood of Youth [Xiao Se Generation]
The author didn't really emphasize romance in his novels, I guess his focus is more about brotherhood and righteousness.
From three novels, Dashing Youth has more amount of romance than the other two.
After reading those 3 novels, I think it's not pure wuxia, there are some xianxia elements as well. The duels, the fighting scenes not just sword clashing or fist fighting, but more like what we saw on the drama. [The sword fighting is more like using inner energy and created some lighting thingy]
All in all, those 3 novels and dramas are worth to read and watch.
My favourite is still TBOY because the boys are more silly but have more sense of responsibilities, to clean up the evil that happened around Beili.
[I think that's why they looked older, Xiao Se was supposed to be 20-21; Wuxin 17; Lei Wujie 16-18; Tang Lian 22-23, Qianluo probably at the same age as Lei Wujie, and Ruoyi at the same age as Xiao Se]
They indeed butchered it down badly.
And it's also kinda heavy romance series.
If I may defend Sikong Qianluo, she grew up as a pampered young lady, fully spoiled not only by her father but also by the whole city. But at the end of the series, she grew up and became slightly mature although still held her fiery temper [which was inherited from her deceased mother].

When 2 older brothers supported their little brother to pursuit his crush but the sweet atmosphere was ruined by the little brother himself.

It was a danmei adaptation [Kaleidoscope of Death] but was never made or produced as a BL drama.
Even the description on MDL has explained that it's Censored Adaptation of Same-Sex Original Work.
It was explained on the Lady in The Rain scene [after they helped to bring xiong qi out of the painting] that someone managed to save Xiao Ke's life but she could only live and survive if she stays inside the doors.

Actually Ruan Lanzhu is the representative of the ideal hero according to LJS and also part of Gao Dawei's personality.
The actor who played Gao Dawei n Ruan Lanzhu are the same tho.
