I have to agree with you here. William has dead eyes to me, it's like he doesn't emote well. Someone like Chen Kun or Hu Ge would've nailed it as their added nuances to their performances really brings stone cold characters to life.

The writing, flat dialogue and the cheap grandstanding really kept this drama from what it could've have been which is a shame because the cinematography and costumes were beautiful.

It really did, like they couldn't wait to end it all. C-dramas really need to pay attention to the endings of these dramas. Sheesh

Yeap glad they changed from the novel. It felt nice knowing that Jifeng Pavillion members really stayed true to the end. They really helped the Empire stay in tact.

I have just started and I like the overall colour grading of the show which is typical of Iqiyi shows but im currently finishing off one other The Bond with Bai Yu so I will continue once I finish that. I am trying to put historical dramas on the back burner for now because the writing is lacking most of the time.

If there is one thing I've learnt in this drama is be like Shaozi. Do your job well, mind your business, don't get entangled in meaningless situations and you shall live to the very end.

So I gave in and watched the last episode and well, it ended. I can't say how great it was because it wasn't. Everything felt rushed and the director really needs to know how to not dim grand events because that last fight lacked the payout it was looking.

I guess the Grand Mentor is Shifu based on that convo she had with the cute Prince Weiyun.

It's been boring for a while now. It's just continuous loop of events. The dialogue is too flat for it to be truly memorable. The writing is not nuanced enough to have any emotional payout for me so I've dropped it. It happens, just pick up a new drama.

I haven't seen the last released episodes and honestly don't plan to watch the rest of the series, I'm just here to read everyone's comments.

Every episode I miss Shaozi because that's all I care about at this point in the drama. And what clothes Haishi is wearing because the clothes are exquisitely made

Big facts and don't even be sorry. I hate that the ministers have been reduced to nothing but puppets instead of intelligent and strategic thinkers. Surely, not all of them are incompetent otherwise how would the Empire have survived this long? And Shifu's role has really just gone somewhere. Might as well make him a shadow because that's all he does, follow Haishi and ensures he saves her even when it's not unnecessary -______-
