Unless the real lawyer Gao is aware (this is a theory some viewers on weibo have been discussing). I also find it very unrealistic that such a well known lawyer would not be aware that something is going on. So maybe he is also somehow involved (maybe the ML is his friend or maybe he hired him).

Very slow burn so far (ep 15) but the tension is portrayed so well that you really feel their attraction for one another. There will be full blown skinship and romance in the next 3/4 episodes.

Do you think people under cover pay for the stuff they use? Everything - car, clothes etc is meant to pretend he is a high powered lawyer so whoever employs him will of course pay for it (work related costs). Same for the money he gave the in laws - not from his pocket. They can also use fakes to lower the cost - the watch they sent her was a fake.

100%. C dramas depict bad guys in a very distinct manner. And if he was bad there would be another ML. My guess is that he would have asked his team to do something and reacted emotionally (to protect his love) as he knows she’d get into even more trouble if she had called. He insists on never breaking the law so that’s why I assume he had his reasons. But That’s only speculation.

You're right, this is exactly the same plot. And the ML in the serie in indeed an infiltrated detective from the Judicial Police Division (which I personally believe is the same for this ML too) but we shall see!

I love how savage they both are - they have a really dry sense of humour, very direct and no nonsense but affectionate. He didn’t care about her being cold he asked for all the hot packs LOL. They are a great match.

This drama is addictive and the characters are really well written. I love how the ML is fighting hard against his feelings but unconsciously just acts like her husband. It’s both funny and endearing.

I need a pragmatic sugar daddy like Mr. Tan in my life : a feeder who proactively sorts out mundane stuff that I hate looking after. Please send me a box of goodies and fix my door for me. I can forgive the creepy stuff he’s been doing.

I saw some later scenes where the ML follows the FL in court from behind the way a legit lawyer would do. He can fake an identity behind closed doors but not in a tribunal so he is most likely some sort of government official- whether police or law not sure. But he is way too righteous and knowledgeable about law and intelligence to be a private “boss”. Also, he and his team now know that she didn’t lie about the money (when they realised she tried to sell the watches) but are still investigating. I’m dying to know the truth!!!!! ;)

The other reason why I get that feeling is that Xiao Wen doesn't seem closer at all with Gao Jun and if Gao Jun was really bad, why would he accept to help the FL. And how would the ML manage to replace him so easily.

Ok so after watching more previews/trailers and looking at some comments on Weibo...it seems very likely that Gao Jun and the ML know each other and work together. It would be almost impossible to impersonate a famous lawyer in such a small network without him knowing. So maybe Gao Jun is actually not bad (which would be a nice twist) but is actually working with the police (ML seems to be some sort of under cover detective). And ML is most likely the one who wrote the love letter back them, she just does't remember him.

I've heard another theory that would explain this. The ML actually knows and is close to Gao Jun and Gao Jun knows that he is impersonating him (so maybe Gao Jun is actually on the side of the law) and that the ML was the one who did write the letter and loved the FL at school. That would make sense as I find it very odd that ML is able to pretend being a very fanous lawyer and that Gao J never questions anything (he was very elusive when he was asked questions in the lift).

FL acting is stop notch - don't understand the complaints. Don't know many Chinese actresses who could pull off such a strong, broken and complex character. The way she is acting (putting up a strong front while still being numb about what's happening) is 100% how I'd expect someone in her shoes to be acting. And her BFF is also a very realistic portrayal of how a very smart, single woman with a high powered job in her 30's would behave. People saying she lacks empathy must be very young - she is literally trying to ensure her friend doesn't become a ghost by putting some sense into her and looking after her. Even the super annoying pregnant cousin and loser husband are how a typical middle class spoiled Chinese woman behaves.

I just read on douban someone saying that he is a bounty hunter. Didn't know it existed in China. If so, it could also be an option

Ok so I've come to the conclusion that he is an undercover cop. I don't believe the theory that he is after the money. He is way too clued up about investigation and law for a supposedly con artist. And his team doesn't look like crooks but like typical under cover cops. Also, one of the photos (the one where he is holding her from behind with a gun) gives it away - looks like a cop.

Ep 10 - he is not a lawyer and has been pretending to be Mr Gao. Who on earth is he then??
