Never expected Perth and Chimon to hit it off the way they did. Especially Perth's Chopper; holy smokes sometimes the way he hesitatingly, smolders at Ben, I die. Like that's some serious chemistry. And both Chimon and Perth's acting is also really, really good so far. Unrequited love and desperate unsaid longing, the perfect combo for this duo. Also, they are both very sus, and that's what adds that extra layer to me like I really want to know their backstory, their friendship, and what Chopper truly meant when he described Ben to Nueng. They are extremely intriguing, to say the least.
i quoted from someone on twitter:"Tbh kinda tired how people push everything to be BL nowadays.""Friendship theme…
People are tired of how other people enjoy media?? Huh?! Seems kinda selfish! BL people don't really say "we are tired of people pushing the friendship agenda", or people enjoying friendship between characters!! Then why is everyone getting bothered by how different people connect or enjoy movies, or dramas or series, or books or things of entertainment... As long as you enjoy it the way you want to, why does it matter what others or how others enjoy stuff and express their happiness?
I don't usually see webtoon readers appreciate and like or rave about a live-action, but Weak Hero has been taken so very well by the og webtoon readers, means that it must be really good, and the fact that we really need to nitpick it to find flaws justifies all the hype Weak Hero is receiving. And out of all the 2022 Kdramas including 2521 and ExtraOrdinary Attorney Woo, I have to say this was the best. Literally, the best and I hope the award season also shows this much love to our team of Weak Hero. You guys were freaking amazing, and I expect even better things in S2 (fingers crossed we get it.) And yes I proudly, shamelessly SHIP SiEun and SuHo😏, such chemistry shouldn't go to waste!
That classroom bully was seriously so stupid, I mean he was good at math, and most likely without studying. He secured second place in the math competition after all, and if he tried he could have probably even surpassed SiEun in grades. Instead, he went on getting his nose broken, his father blackmailed, his cousin in jail, and whatnot all on Fentanyl and ego-boosting nonsense and destroying lives.
PS: The actor looks like a twin of Kim Woo-Bin, what the hell🤣
I know, I groaned when they introduced her as a love interest. The show really doesn't need an obnoxious girl…
Again I agree, but to make the audience connect to the fact that Bumseok was going to latch onto her as an excuse, is just not connecting with a lot of us here. Her "purpose" as you say, is pretty clear as a foil, but it "feels" useless, or unnecessary, and that's something to do with scriptwriting. Taking out the gender, the characterization of Young Yi is so vague, she appears and she disappears with no explanation whatsoever, nothing fleshed out to show her growing connection with SuHo or anything or even who she is, how she ended up where she is, all of it feels extremely out of place. (If I go as far as she feels stereotypically like a bad girl, with a heart of gold.)
And the drama trying to show that "Bumseok is jealous but doesn't know of what, and so it's Young Yi "as a plot point FEELS entirely pointless. Because WE KNOW WHAT HE IS JEALOUS OF.
AGAIN, you're correct, but I am saying it"feels" useless, not necessarily that it is. And that's what a part of the audience is picking up on.
A Show that Went from a 10 to a 5 in Three Seconds Flat I'm disappointed the show flipped a character with virtually…
this drama won’t leave my mind fuckkk 😭 thinking about how bumseok saw suho as higher and above him, as the leader of their trio whereas suho just saw him as an equal friend, not higher not lower, and that’s where their misunderstandings started ;-; suho’s friendly gesture of putting his arm around his loved ones to bumseok was a gesture of control and superiority, the weight of his arm was too much for bumseok who grew up under the pressure of so many authoritative figures ;-: this also explains why bumseok was always trying to copy suho (like at the restaurant when they were making ssam ) etc etc, he idolised him and that admiration turned into an inferiority complex, meanwhile suho just never realised that bumseok regarded him so highly ;-; this showcases the difference between someone who grew up in a loving environment and was never desperate to be loved and belong (no anxiety about being accepted) and someone who grew up in an unstable and conditional environment (anxiety about all their relationships) it’s so SAD .
And this is how I reasoned, somewhere down in the comments here!
Bumseok is like a symbolic device of how deranged and insecure people can become when they are treated like commodities without love, only knowing violence. His inferiority complex, his volatility, and his rage stemming from the absolutely inhumane way his father treated him, lead to the ultimate conclusion: two beautiful lives being destroyed and derailed.
I know, I groaned when they introduced her as a love interest. The show really doesn't need an obnoxious girl…
True, and as you and I said, she was a projection/excuse Bumseok conjured as a result of losing his control of reality, but the plot of that itself feels very unnecessary. Like it didn't make sense to show us that she was Bumseok's breaking point. As the audience, it felt very out of place... And also I want to point out that she was already involved (willingly or not, looked pretty willing though) with "toxic masculinity" with that classroom bully's cousin, the tough, big, handsome bully, and his gang, way before she got involved with the main trio. And to reiterate, I think the reason she is getting singled out, as the odd jarring character in Weak Hero is simply that there feels like no flow of her becoming the focal point of Bumseok's anger, because at no point do we see any type of hint of romance between SuHo and Young Yi to insinuate that. If anything Bumseok should be more jealous of SuHo hanging out with SiEun, out of the three. So it does appear like her "plot purpose" is actually pretty useless. And I honestly, would have the same opinion as I said before even if Young Yi was a guy.

Not to jump into this thread, and this is not only because of Young Yi's gender but also because if Young Yi was a guy, I would still feel the character was kind of like an extra, not really necessary for plot progress. Because the whole characterization in the drama that she drove Bumseok to commit the crimes because of jealousy is kind of flimsy. Because it's clearly visible Bumseok didn't lose his mind to betray his friends over her, he lost it because of unsurmountable things happening around him that led him to act in that vicious and utterly unforgivable manner. She was only a tool for him to blame, to feel as if he had a reason... So yes, all in all, Young Yi's purpose is quite underwhelming in Weak Hero. And I would still feel this way if Young Yi was a boy.
Jihoon (Shieun) and Hyunwook (Sooho) were a honeymoon couple from the get-goNoone can change my mind
I didn't think they were honeymooning from the get-go, but the scene where SiEun didn't open the curtains or turn on the lights in the classroom to allow SuHo to sleep, is when I felt it between them. It was such a quiet thing to do, barely noticeable, but at the same time, it meant so much more.
Also, I don't care what anyone says but SiEun and SuHo are boyfriends and husbands and soulmates and best friends and brothers and just two beautiful people trying to survive in this wretched world who deserve all the love.
"Maybe we were a married couple in our past lives." "You know, you're crazy to go after him alone." -"But you came." "Are you his friend?" -"Yes." "I'm sorry. For everything." -"Me too."
Tell me, You Su Min-shi Directornim, how do you not want me to ship after all this?!!
