Soo Young is self centered and kind of a coward. She lacks of confidence in personal relationships and hurts herself…
Honestly, the whole lot of them, they don't need a girlfriend, boyfriend, husband or wife. They all just need a therapist, and maybe invest some quality time in self love and discovery.
Love is messy, and hard, and complicated, I agree. People are complex beings and difficult to understand, and they hurt you, even when they love you; sometimes the ones who love you the most, hurt you the best. But I disagree that love is the constant gaslighting, self-doubt, lying, not coming clean and so much toxicity. This drama's portrayal of what is "LOVE" makes me deeply uncomfortable. Emotional manipulation is not cute, always victimizing yourself means you need to book an appointment with a therapist. And if you are not in love, don't just passively lead along.
I just have to say this, I feel Perth and Chimon are giving us a masterclass on how to portray non-sexual intimacy with an unexplainably fiery on-screen chemistry.
Chopper Ben with those soft, stolen moon eyes and unspoken words between them. Second chance love with desperate longing. It's been quite a while since I've seen this done with such beautiful acting and top tier chemistry. I'm in love. Peth's and Chimon's acting takes me out everytime, like they do these little subtle things thats almost real and does not even feel like acting and it's just sooooo good. I'm hands down watching this for them, for this quiet unique chemistry that's oozing out everytime they are on screen.
Whoever decided to cast them together as a pair, surely deserves a raise.
Also I don't think Ben's resurfacing feelings for Chopper were random or sudden at all. The hints were always there, through out all the episodes. (And I also feel, that Ben somewhere somehow always perhaps wanted Chopper to fight for them, not to move away, not to distance himself like strangers; not to give up on them so easily. I could totally be wrong, but the last episode did give me that vibe that Ben didn't really enjoy, kind of on realizing, at last, that Chopper had let go with no qualms).
LDH and SHK has perfect chemistry so don't worry they will survive and they will marry! :)
Yeah, I guess different Kdramas hit different spots in us! Jo In Sung did have that stoic vibe in TWTWB, kind of matching with SHK's equally stoic and frozen characterization... So yeah... And I also kind of agree with your last sentence LMAO.
Kudos to the director! The direction made all the difference. Even the writer herself screamed and swooned at…
Really?! I had no idea about that! I thought I was only one seeing it between SHK and HDY's scenes, but then I went on Twitter, followed by Tiktok and Youtube and was completely taken aback my how many people actually noticed it too! NGL I feel validated!!
LDH and SHK has perfect chemistry so don't worry they will survive and they will marry! :)
To me, they don't have that "perfect" chemistry to quote you, and this is something that I have been seeing in SHK's few of the past dramas. Like with Bogum in Encounter and Jang Ki-Yong in Now We Are Breaking Up. And don't get me wrong, this to me, has nothing to do with the age gap (PS: Something in the rain is still my favorite because of the impeccable chemistry between YeJin and HaeIn, and noona romances are one of a kind of delicacy that brings out the love in my heart). But this is about something to do with the kind stunted sort of interactions/feeling SHK usually has with her male leads (even in That Winter The Wind Blows). And I don't think it has anything to do with SHK's acting, more like the script writing and the MLs are kind of unable or not the exact fit for her kind of aura/acting. Song Joon-Ki matched her perfectly in DOTS (the script writing for it was also visibly superior). And here too in Glory, while I believe with my whole heart (and brain too, after watching a million kdramas) SHK's Dong Eun will have a greater tenderness and even possibly love for LDH's Yeong Jung, (given that they are the first leads) who if not directly, will still possibly have somewhat of a romantic connection. I will still stand firm behind the word CHEMISTRY, and specifically, the chemistry between SHK and Ha Do Young being stronger, and palpable, regardless of what happens in the drama. And this is even more understated and rare given the fact that Do Young barely has lines with her, let alone scenes.
And sorry for writing such a long essay, but this is entirely my opinion (disregarding the entire concept of ageism of the actors, and solely basing it on the connection between 2 or more actors that the audience is easily able to discern and feel a part of), and at the end of the day, we can absolutely agree to disagree.
Of all SHK's prior male leads (Except DOTS obviously), never did I ever imagine that it was the supporting character of Do Young, (with whom she probably has had the least screentime), that would form such a seriously intense tension and spellbinding chemistry with. This ship will probably never sail. and sink most likely to the bottom of the Pacific in the second half, but I will proudly go down with it. Such chemistry from SHK after her recent dramas, that too with an exceptionally interesting but small supporting character is too rare to not appreciate.
For everyone who is again harping about SHK being older than LDH. In Korean dramas, unlike bias everywhere else…
Oh, wow! This was really good to know. I find noona romances not to be very different from other romance dramas in general (they are enjoyable, fun, exciting, and sometimes very fluffy💕); except that Korea does it more often than others. And here too I'm totally on board for SHK and LDH bringing (maybe?!) some lovin' and heat to the screen, but honestly, I think SHK's chemistry with Jung Sung Il is actually superior in this drama!! Like I could feel that live-wire tension between them, even in simple scenes of Go playing, and those few moments of stoic, clipped exchanges. They were hot even without like significant screen time or even a little bit of skinship. And seriously I always had hots for LDH, but man here Jung Sung Il was a fine divine gentleman😝.
To me, it felt like Yeo Jung would be able to love Dong Eun more affectionately, with more care, and with greater fondness and devotion, but I do also have the feeling that this is not the love Dong Eun would be able to readily accept or reciprocate. (Although if he does persist, I feel he may just break down the mile-high barriers she has put up around her heart).
On the other hand, I feel Do Young would rather be able to more easily understand and respect Dong Eun, because somewhere he realizes he is in fact not very different from her, while at the same time to NOT look at her with pity. And again to me, it feels that this is something Dong Eun would be able to be more attuned to, to be more receptive of, as well. Love is not something I would easily associate with these two, more like underlying fascination, coupled with mutual respect and a sort of uncanny camaraderie is what defines this duo.
(Also SHK and Jung Sung Il's incredible chemistry even in that measly 3-5min in total screen time with barely anything other than intense eye contact and clipped words, is ice-cold fire!!) I loved, loved their interactions.
Some of the bullying scenes I had to skip for personal and psychological reasons, but someone please tell me Dong Eun wasn't raped right? I mean, I feel like I will literally puke if she was raped too.
gotta say I can't wait for more Perth even if I don't like Ben that much (yet)
Perth's acting is just👌🏽 so nuanced, and Chimon's Ben is so sus, but that's kind of making me so intrigued about him. Like their whole characterization so far is killin' me! I'm so distrustful of both Ben and Chopper, but I'm also so devastated for them. Chopper's unrequited love and unsaid longing, which I suspect Ben has at least a little inkling of (I may be wrong though) because Ben seems quite intelligent to me. He is slightly manipulative too and also gaslights (for example his convo with Palm). Ben is definitely an interesting character. And then the way Chopper described Ben to Nueng, it's just all so intriguing! Chopper appears to be a really nice guy so far, I would go to say under the circumstances he seems kinda "too nice". But then sometimes, it's juxtaposed with that blank expression like when he shoots after Nueng leaves at the shooting range, giving him quite the antagonist vibe. But I don't know really if he is truly the bad guy or just the anti-hero. Although all of this is just adding to the fun! I'm so into these two!
Wait, do I like second couples? YASS! I do! Do I like anti-heroes? Hell Yeah! Do I like characters with ambiguous morality? Oh heck yes! Do I like unrequited love and desperate longing? A hundred percent! Wait, wait... Do I like angst? Oh, Mama! Oh yeah!
ChopperxBen ticking all my kinks. Hilarious! (Plus Perth and Chimon's superior acting skills are killing me.)

Jang Bong Hwan gets to meet his King Cheol Jong for real.

Such a daddy, truly🔥
