Cannot watch 2 episodes in a raw. I am only at the 5th episode. It is so lively that my head is spinning with all the shouting. Fortunately the production and story is well directed, otherwise I would have given it up. It deserves my rating.
Xiao Zhang's (aka Guo Jing) talent is better shown in movies. He is a surprise to me. As for Sabrina Zhuang aka Huang Rong, it was satisfying that the director didn't drowned her in a too heroic character. She is a healer for the soul and bodies. With her power she is pairing well with Guo Jing. 30 violins listed in the credits.
I am reaching episode 10 only. A little take of my "feelings" on this story while I slowly savour the begining of my well deserved week-end.
Right after Pursuit Of Jade comes Yan YI Kuan aka Emperor/A JI in this series. I always liked his assurance in his acting. And his voice OMG hope it's his real voice.
Kenji Chen aka Fan Zi Xu endorsed his role correctly as a handsome villain. His first minute appearance gave me the vibe of a gentleman and suddenly his role changed drastically without warning. That was brillant. I enjoyed watching him in The Last Immortal and his second chance of redemption. His hair is a plus in his artistic feature for historical dramas. Sorry for my sudden thought on his hair but at every of his takes I am bewildered.
Zhou Zhan aka Xi Men hides his revenge and adamantly awaiting in the dark to strike. Playing the commoner without backbone, family neither status support. I am looking forward to his success.
Production, wardrobe, props, OST and acting are surprising for a 7 to 11 minutes story per episode. It looks like an expensive project though.
The bullying subject is very appropriate and well directed. Appropriate because bullying has no age, no era, no set country, no race, no status, no religion but is an ingrained satanic feeling in a human. The (unknown to me) director nails it.
My first watching such a short length Cdrama and I really enjoy it. The best timely story everynow and then for me between my working day projects to relax.
Posted my review...didn't think it would be that long LOL🥲Now time to lie down and try to sleep I guess😔
Up to now 2 streams on You**be praising only Zhang Ling He as if he is the only actor carrying the drama on his soulders. No mention on the director and the entire cast. Very disappointing.
So much saga explained in episodes 39 and 40. It is quite a twist. Qi Min superhumain...no broken bones, no head injury, no physical handicap resulting from his fall. Qian Qian from another era ? Is it an opening for a second season ?
I remember a viewer asking a questionon this thread about the OST. And agree to him/her of the music theme of The Story Of Ming Lan very clear at 12:29 of episode 38.
Actor Wu Yi Jia's facial and body expressions are so funny. He portrays well his humble guest role with great acting. Sun Kai needs to be pulled up to more serious role. As for Swawn Zhang I need to check his movies. Guan Yun Peng fits in this light hearted emperor role. Poor emperor used as a puppet. Wei had a vicious mind by putting him on the trone.
The grandiose "ouverture" of this 36th episode has some similarities with all the passionate haters on this thread. Haters quiing on both sides of the upper balconies claiming the positive traits of their favorite character. Was this scene foreseen by the director and screenwriter ?
I agree, Song Yan was easily manipulated because of his weak personality. I agree he doesn't deserve ChangYu's attention and affection, not to say he deserves no partmer. I think that a severe punishment from the Rites department would have been sufficient. Unless his way of thinking by "Heavens isn't fair" might bear malice to our couple.
When reaching the last episode this Cdrama will hunt me for a couple of days until...another well crafted Cdrama bursts my screen. Another interesting story will take over, I feel like cheating on my partner crowned with a new green hat. Shame on me ! Cdrama gifts me with too many love affairs.
I am flabbergasted by the interpratation of the cast. I watch the BTS and was amazed for the crew hardwork and the cast dedication to make this look real. I shall take the time to watch the docummentary. It's so well praised in Europe. So much recognition from the British descendants of these soldiers. So much love and empathy they sent to Chinese people. For what I understood, the martyrs of Dongji Island are not well known in China. I've learned so much and will do more reading on this subject.
It is another WWII real story we shouldn't forget.

I get my saddle and get on my horse for a ride !
No need for blood. Karma is a bi**h towards them.

Back to the story with the 37th episode.
