I think the plot itself is interesting but the dialogue is a bit long winded and boring in places.

Heheh - I also read the novel so was an easy decision to skip Rebirth.

Hello… how is Rebirth? I didn’t make it past Ep 1 bc the Yuwen Yue I knew and loved would not be such a dumbass as to make himself an easy target on top of a mountain of corpses!😅

There is a heavy element of choose your own ending in it. Kind of a cop out.

Thank you for reading. I am just having a super busy year and have fallen very behind on reviews but I get to them eventually. Zhou Yiran is a fantastic young actor, I plan to check out more of his dramas. Veil of Shadows is pretty good although it gets a bit messy at the end. You could give it a try if you like the fantasy genre. I couldn't get into the cast changes for Rebirth.

Yes indeed and its not that different from my interpretation. I just think the last few episodes there were too many unexplained transitions and dead characters popping up alive again for seemingly random reasons. We are supposed to ignore all the unanswered questions bc we are too distraught and distracted by the many deaths. That is why I said I have to think about whether its a bad ending, maybe rewatch some parts.

Nope, I can tell you they definitely DON'T. One of the many reasons its panned on Douban. I find it unnatural and annoying and as a native speaker, I rely on dialogue. It annoyed the crap out of me from start to finish.

I don't think anyone knows. I guess those that think it was a HE think they are reincarnated or stuck in an alternate reality or somewhere along a failed time loop as ordinary mortals. However in the timeline that they existed in, looks to me like they definitely both died. It was very convoluted at the end. I need to rewatch and think about whether it made sense. I think GJM is cheating by throwing so many timelines at us we can interpret it any way we want. I need to think about how I feel about it.

Yeah I feel the same way. It was too pretentious. Her normal voice is a lot better. But that's on GJM not the actress.

Glad we both enjoyed this so much. Wuxias are my favorite genre but China rarely makes them well unfortunately. Tyvm.🌸
