This is the biggest plot hole in the story and one they are clearly not planning to try to explain. Because it is not explainable. As the eldest son of the late emperor's brother MXW should be next in line to the throne after all the late emperor's own sons and grandsons. And he had controlled an army of elite troops. Anytime a fief king like him approaches the capital with an army, the immediate implication is high treason. He would never dare march within the vicinity of the capital without the edict on his own person. And no one would dare take it from him if it were in his hand bc he can justifiably kill them dead. The idea that he would stash it somewhere for "safekeeping" while he entered the capital without it makes zero sense. The fact that he would reveal its location to XWZ makes even less sense.

I completely understand why MXY is really struggling with this. I would add that she always excluded him from her plans - he knew and was always waiting for her to confide in him but she never did. Of course he thinks she doesn't really love him or trust him, she is just repaying a debt. That is a reasonable conclusion to make on his part. I am glad he is divorcing her (I haven't watched 31 but needless to say there are uncovered spoilers all over on this). She needs a wake up call and good for him to stand up for himself and test both their commitments in this extreme way.

The crown prince was the son of the legitimate empress - consort Guo only promoted herself to empress after the emperor died. According to the rules of primogeniture, the son of the deceased crown prince, Mo Jingli should have ascended. That is why headmaster Xu, who was like a grand tutor emeritus closed the academy in protest to how the succession was handled. In doing so, he also effectively barred her from ascending the throne directly.

All Ye Li’s mother had to do was tell General Hua where it was. She didn’t need to go retrieve it herself. And like General Hua, MXW may have survived whatever schemes the palace intrigue. Ding wang is a titular king with the same surname as the ruler, nephew of the previous emperor. The ED would not have dared execute him so casually without making sure the edict would never see the light of day. As to whether the ED would have won the power struggle or whether Mo Jingli would have been a better emperor, who knows?

In ancient times before TB was cured it was a disease that afflicted loads of people. They did cough blood though not in the exaggerated quantities shown in dramas. Not understanding the disease, some may have attributed it to trauma or heartbreak.

Well I can’t blame him for that - she never shared any of her plans with him - in fact she included the assassin more in her schemes than she did her husband! But he also did tell her I think when he first found out that he can maybe get past what happened to him personally but the 30k men he had to think about. Something like that which I think was honest and realistic. People just hand wave the 30k lives like they meant nothing but in reality it should be all about them.

What happened though not either their faults is a huge chasm between them. And to be fair, she needed to come clean A LOT sooner,, arguably from the start. Why does no one talk about how she has kept her secrets and plans from him on many fronts till very late in the game, That is not the action of someone in love. She also didn’t reassure him immediately even though she knew he wouldn’t take it well. They are both partly responsible. I don’t have any issue with how this misunderstanding arc has evolved and I like that they are both flawed and damaged. His brother is dead bc of her foolish mother. That is a lot for anyone and not something someone can just “make up” for.

Well if it weren’t for her dumbass mom, his family wouldn’t have needed justice. They’d still be around! And restoring their reputation is hardly justice - they can never be undead.
