When he says all her letters to members of Lishan academy , why did she write all these letters but never send…
I think she knows in her subconscious. She just can't bear to admit it to herself.

All these "sale" packages may or may not be that great depending on what you want. For WeTV and iQiyi,…
I don't watch on illegal sites either where its like 480k or something that looks like crap on my big screen TV. I am happy to wait for my 4k.

Indeed. They both made mistakes. Makes them human and flawed. I am ok with that.

WeTV express can't be watched on a TV. I don't buy it anymore. If you are air-playing it from your iphone, its obvious that its not 4K anymore on the TV - even the screen size is shrunk. Been there done that not doing it again.

Exactly! Ye Li not speaking out reinforces the idea that maybe she was only there to repay a debt. He loves her so deeply he can't reconcile with that. I think this is one of those rare, well written conflicts (albeit there are plot holes). No one is right or wrong but the end result is complicated and needs time to be put into perspective. If he just glosses over it all and remains lovey dovey I would think much less of him. He is not completely stupid even though his pride is wounded that she could be with him out of debt. In fact he was quite clear - he said to the Marquis why would I put weight into the words of a dying man? He also told Ye Li very clearly what he can't just hand wave away the 30k men who died - their lives mattered. It is weighing on his conscience and he will need time to process what happened.

That's just making excuses for bad/lazy writing. They could have died anyway without the FL's mother being such an airhead.

For those interested in a bargain, there is a sale (due to the Dragon Boat Festival) on Youku and WeTV, ~ $40…
All these "sale" packages may or may not be that great depending on what you want. For WeTV and iQiyi, they are at best 1080 quality. If you want to watch 4k quality then you'd best pay full price. Also iQiyi full price subscription gives you all the express episodes for no extra payment. As for Youku, they don't have 4k yet but they have sold almost all their good dramas to Netflix so if you have Netflix, you don't need to subscribe to it.

can someone explain to me the whole deal with why her mother stole the edict? lm struggling to understand how…
It was a grift from the start - she was "allowed" by Marquis Muyang to visit MXW in prison. Bc she was from Lishan Academy, he trusted her with the location of the edict, which he had hidden. This part never made sense to me - he is a general with an edict to enter the capital - no one would dare stop him. If they tried, with edict in hand, he could strike them down dead and answer questions later. It made no sense to enter without the edict on his person - that is for sure something that would have gotten him killed. Beyond that, he is quite stupid to trust XWZ with the location of the edict - she is a defenceless housewife trying to play game of thrones. But maybe he didn't think she would be dumb enough to retrieve it herself. He probably thought she would tell General Hua where it was and let him and his army retrieve it. Instead Ye Li's air-headed mother goes retrieves it herself when she has no means to keep it secure. She is beyond dumb she lacks basic survival instincts. And I am also not super impressed with MXW. But I guess that is why they are both dead - they didn't have enough brains to survive chaotic times.

I wonder ehat punishment the dowager would get. Give up the throne to her son? spend her days with her bestie?…
My guess is she will be sent to a nunnery and will have to copy Buddhist scriptures till she dies.

The moment MXY burned that precious memento, I lost all sympathy for him.
I agree with you. None of them were perfect and should have, could have done better.

"i cant appreciate your mother's struggles on behalf of those people "-genuinely what does Prince Ding…
Maybe there is something wrong with the subtitles bc what he said made a lot of sense to me. Her mother was mind numbingly stupid and I personally hold her responsible for the death of all those 30k men. And so does Ye Li - that is exactly why she against her better judgement time and again did not come clean with her husband. Just bc they are common soldiers doesn't mean Prince Ding had a better right to live or only the Ding family suffered. There are 30kX many wives, daughters, sons, brothers etc who lost men they loved nothing less. That can't just be swept under the rug by anyone with a conscience. They all died bc one dumbass woman overestimated herself and didn't understand her own limitations and thought she was going to save the world and instead she got them all killed dead. She could have waited for General Hua to arrive and retrieved the edict with him. Instead she took it upon herself to retrieve it and promptly got dispossessed of it. How stupid and naive is this dumb woman??? To be honest, she is the dumbest character I have encountered in a c-drama in a long, long time. I totally understand with MXY is coming from. And I think Ye Li is partly at fault - she should have spoken up sooner. I also think MXY's bro is not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. To me, the biggest plot hole is still how he thought it made sense to enter the city without the edict. And then to entrust its hidden location with the biggest airhead of all time Xu Wanzhou.

Top 1: To be fair, it was obvious to everyone that the story was wildly improbable, which is why Ye Li was arrested…
Geez - why a man needs such a big hairpin is beyond me.

the last few episodes have been pissing me off ngl. the characters were written smart in the beginning but suddenly…
Top 1: To be fair, it was obvious to everyone that the story was wildly improbable, which is why Ye Li was arrested but treated well. It was a diplomatic relations nightmare bc they could hardly accuse Cangbei of killing their own beloved princess to start a war with Dachu. They were just stalling and hoping for a solution to present itself. Which it did.
Top 2 - I haven't watched yet so no comment. But I do think that Prince Ding should have asked his wife right away for an explanation, even though she was sick from swallowing a hairpin.

How did the edict appeared as I knew YeLi hidden it when she was taken to the prison. Thanks.
Ah ok - that's the same scene I remember but I only saw it come out of her sleeve. I missed the seat cushion. Gu Zheng did mention the crime scene was sealed with no one permitted to enter or exit. Maybe she asked him to retrieve it for her since it was shown during their conversation. He would have access as part of Jingzhou Prefecture.

Chinese writers love this coughing up blood trope. In my forty decades on earth I have never seen blood coughing…
I believe this originated from tuberculosis. It was quite prevalent and not well understood during ancient times but of course the amount of blood coughed up is vastly exaggerated in dramas today. It comes up in Western literature as well - often referred to as consumption.

I believe she had it stashed under her sleeve the whole time - from the moment she was just losing consciousness from being drugged she slipped it into an inner sleeve. She is Princess Ding, no one is going to body search her.

his unwavering loyalty is to his own power....the ed's downfall is coming....that has to be the end.....
She definitely played game of thrones and won. I can understand Jingli's cause but once he turned traitor to the country, he disqualified himself from the line of succession. He would have been better off trying to reclaim the throne via more legitimate ways.
