Yes, I suspect if Kunwu ends up being Ke JP, there will be a twist. Most likely he caught and replaced the original Kunwu so he is not a Japanese spy. That's why he uses drawing and not handwriting and he is always disguised. He once said he only cares about results and not how he gets there or who he sacrifices. His end game is to obtain the code and figure out the Japanese plan of attack on Changsha. He would also most likely be the other half of the picture that Muzhi had.

My initial reaction was they the child was Ling Han. But now that doesn't fit. Director Ji only just discovered this - so how did Deputy Zhu know this? And why did he not expose Ling Han? Ling Han tried to frame him. Why would he keep this knowledge a secret? This means either Deputy Zhu IS Kunwu and their enmity is just a head fake OR more likely, the note is not about Ling Han but about WYM.

I think this poster is very interesting. Most of the characters in it have so far shown themselves NOT to be Kunwu. I didn't understand it at first and even wondered why Grandma was in it. But now with 8 more episodes to go, I realize the empty chair, implies Kunwu is NOT in the room. That suggests everyone in the picture is not Kunwu. Ke JP is in the room and seated.

WYM is disappointed in KJP bc KJP is covering up everything that happened to Yang in order to shift CPIC blame away from themselves. She is disillusioned bc NBIS is more concerned about covering their own butts than fighting their real enemies.

Dai Li (the big boss of NBIS) demanded that his men remain celibate and only love and serve their country. That is why KJP is not married and seems to live in the office. Seriously are there even any scenes of him at home? But maybe he did once secretly love someone and had a child whom he then "adopted". I think WYM is the illegitimate child that YHS was referring to in that note that the fat guy showed Deputy Zhu. I think KJP trusts Zhu as much as an old spy like him trusts anyone. They both probably have a shared interest in defending Changsha, which is why he refused to indict Zhu when Ling Han tried to frame him. I figured out that Zhu's protector is Xue Yue, the commander of Changsha's defense. Xue Yue is a hero, the commander that refused Chiang Kai-shek's order to abandon Changsha and successfully defended it. If I am right about this, then both Deputy Zhu and KJP should be good guys.
To the extent KJP turns out to be Kunwu (which I doubt but don't entirely rule out), it is because the woman he loved must be Japanese and he must have a wife and son still held hostage by them. But I am skeptical of this. I think anyone that is so high in NBIS can't possibly have managed to have a Japanese family without anyone knowing.

I am just guessing. I think YZM real message was only wrt the windchime. I think he lied about having a daughter bc the pic of the kids only shows 4 boys. Then both he and HS diverted attention to some irrelevant picture in the Netherlands or something. The second quote of the Buddhist scriptures was a misdirect to plant the fake codebook that will enable them to lure out Kunwu. The real one is probably still stashed safely away. I don't think HS will be stupid enough to retrieve it until Kunwu is unmasked.

I think the codebook that they are all chasing is fake. The real one should be in the windchime. It is grift to make Kunwu show himself.

This covering up by Ke does not immediately make him a bad guy. That was just how it was during this time.

They were rival spy agencies, in-fighting was inevitable. Technically NBIS (led by Dai Li) was responsible for internal/domestic surveillance while CBIS (led by Chen Lifu) for external threats. But in the matter of Japanese aggression, there is clear territorial overlaps and infighting. They definitely didn't trust or even communicate with each other, something that Yang cleverly exploited to both clear himself and HS and also cut off further investigation by NBIS. NBIS reacts by trying to clean up and deny responsibility for causing the death of a high ranking CBIS operative.

Yes of course the gold is not in Changsha. I meant either the codebook or a clue to where the gold is is hidden in the temple. I also haven't figured what the wind chime means except it was also a clue to how to crack the code in Kunwu's drawing.
