I think (hope) that is because there are other, more interesting reveals. Like how she managed to survive after YM's parents were killed. I suspect Envoy Kang didn't just pick up YM's dad's chess board. He also must have also picked up baby Ashu who was probably tied to the horse with the chess board. That would explain why she speaks the speech of Yanle royalty and knows her origins. In which case, they know each other and he helped her get to Changle.

I am going to try The First ShotI hear it is an excellent script even though I really don't like Huang Jingyu. If all else fails, its probably time for me to finally watch Story of Yanxi Palace.

I really want to watch this but why Huang Jinyu??? This guy plays the cop ALL THE TIME and he never brings anything new to the table in each iteration. But its apparently a good script so gonna at least check it out.

This month's dramas are all pretty bland I can barely watch more than 2 episodes at a time.

The first few cases were actually pretty good. The whole princess arc is just beyond dumb but I wouldn't even call it a reveal bc they went out of their way to make it so completely obvious you really had to be utterly clueless to not to get who she was.

Idk I didn't read the novel. But he didn't strike me as a good villain candidate. The Cui family are not of royal descent they are only titular local fief kings. And there is no such thing as a crippled emperor in the entire Chinese history. The emperor must be perfect. As a cripple, he can't even inherit the Huaiyang wang title.

ZRY is only 3 years older than TJC and 3 years ago he was long past crappy shows like Castle in the Sky. I think after LYF TJC has many good script offers so lets hope he chooses well.

The actor ZWY I am a big fan of; tbh I would have dropped this if anyone else were the lead. But the story is beyond bland. It was boring from the get go and one of the few dramas I watch at 1.25 speed.

Sure, any of them would work if they at a bare minimum look the part. This drama is being panned notwithstanding praises for TJC's acting so I wouldn't call it a breakout role for anyone. The script is unfortunately not really resonating with anyone and I say this as someone who REALLY WANTS to love this.

Well ZRY was really young when he took crappy scripts and he is different bc as the son of a famous director he comes from drama royalty. It’s taken TJC forever to be discovered unlike Xu Kai and ZLH he doesn’t have the luxury anymore of crappy scripts. It’s a cruel business actors age out very fast. So this one hasn’t hurt him but let’s say it’s not helped either.

I just started it so far so good. Definitely better than 6.7!
