Honestly I think there is something lacking in WCR's portrayal of this part of the character evolution. She should have some conflict, her feelings should be more nuanced. Instead she is approaching it as if its a different role and she became a different person. There are unspoken ways to convey that she is still at the core the same LMT. But this is not happening so I am thinking CXZ loved an entirely different person and a LMT that I don't even like has showed up onscreen. I don't think it is just a writing issue it is also an acting issue. The actress is new to main roles and she did a good job when the character was simpler and more straightforward. Now that there is an added layer of complexity to the role, its not showing up in the portrayal.

School holidays, i.e., high season for dramas are over from Sept 1. In some cities school has re-started already. All release schedules should slow down/go back to normal.

I hear you - people really need to use spoiler tags. Its easy and its a matter of common curtesy. But its always the same people who do this. I just scroll very fast past their comments and don't read them. If they are really out of line and spam the thread with spoilers, I just block them. I actually read less than half the comments on here.

Well the novel is written is based on Journey to the West. Instead of the 81 Tribulations part, it becomes 81 cases that 玄奘 solves on his Westward Journey. In the drama, they made it Go East instead and had all the Western Kings along the Silk Road go EAST to Changan on diplomatic missions. Its quite creative way to solve the problem of hopping from one set to another along the Silk Road.

He’s not just a monk he is your favorite monk 玄奘 on his way to pick up scriptures for Taizong. But there is no monkey, piggy or sandy just one small boy Ashu. I guess monk would be quite the new one for TJC I am not sure about the shaved head.

As for the stabbing I found it incredibly off putting as well. I think casual violence like that against a lover has to be a deal breaker. There is no difference to me whether its the ML or FL that did it.

This is obviously a fictional work that is set in Tang dynasty about mysteries related to diplomatic relations along the Silk Road. For fun I tried to figure out what the different countries are. I think Ashu is from Yanle or Samarkand, which should be part of Persia at this time and she does dress like a Persian princess. Beyond that this is what else I figured out:

Mobei - should be the Turkic Khaganate, the Gokturks that are part of present day Mongolia, Kazakhstan and parts of Siberia. The Yueying princess should be the well known Yicheng Princess of Sui who married 4 successive Gokturk Khans. She was also the baddie in The Long Ballad and this should be Ashile Sun’s country.

Yueying - obviously should be Sui Dynasty

Xiyuan and Dongyuan should be Western Turkestan and Eastern Turkestan

Yuluo - I can't figure this out other than they should be at Tang dynasty's western frontier but there were many nomadic tribes - I would guess most likely Khitan or Uyghurs but also could be Tanguts or even Tibetans.

I briefly skimmed the first few chapters. Almost all the characters are changed beyond recognition. Its a series of connected mysteries and Yuan Mo is a monk and Ashu is a small boy. I didn't peek at the ending bc I don't want to be spoiled.

It was careless of Director Yu not to review the agreement wording before it was read out.

Yes, this is my read also and has been quite clear reading between the lines for some time now.

I agree, the actress was great early on at conveying the role bc it was quite simple. Now that the character has become complex, she is not portraying any of the conflict or nuanced emotions well at all. I am not connecting with her character anymore. She is still a novice and it is in parts like this that is shows.
