Tan Jianci makes it a point to dub all his dramas himself and he is indeed the narrator of this series as well as dubbing himself as Yuan Mo. He is very versatile and changes his voice to suit his role. I believe there are only 2 dramas that he hasn't dubbed himself in, one of which was his first drama. I had reservations about this bc of A Shu/Zhou Yiran. She totally lost me in Regeneration and I dropped To the Wonder bc I couldn't take her vapid moping. But I think her character here is livelier and she looks good cast with Tan Jianci.
Apparently this is adapted from a very popular mystery novel set in Tang Dynasty that is inspired by Journey to the West! 😅 I didn't read it but it seems it to have been set in Chang'an and refers to real historical figures including Li Shimin. Its quite funny that instead of Going West, its titled Go East and apparently all the characters are different but the cases should be similar.
