Yes BDJ was the one that delivered Wuxin to the temple. He was 5 at the time. I didn't pay that much attention to the timeline but I am guessing they were together for 5 years . Wuxin was already 3 years old when YWJ was tricked back to the capital. And when she ran off to be with YDZ, Jingxu was not yet the emperor. YDZ died in the 8th year of Mingde so everything happened within 8-10 years.
BDJ didn't try to stop YDZ, he risked everything to take his side. YDZ realized he made a mistake that caused too many people on both sides to die. So he gave up and killed himself. It was the only way to make everything right. The Sky Beyond sect gave up once he died as they had no more leader. BDJ took Wuxin hostage to make sure for 12 years Sky Beyond would stay out of Beili. And it was to keep the kid safe as well. He stashed him with the monks who are apolitical and powerful enough to protect him from both sides.

That wasn't a pure romance it had quite a bit of suspense and time travel and the romantic scenes were light and funny only. Every now and then you still see rants about his past scandal. If I were him I would avoid roles that may trigger that kind of reaction. As it is his career is only barely back on track. No need to court controversy. And he is not an idol actor he is a properly trained real actor he doesn't need to skate by with those kinds of fluffy or toxic ML roles.
