More time to build up the hype if it takes longer to air πŸ™ƒ But I am really looking forward to this one.
Its high season bc school holidays in China begin July 8. It is possible to even get 2 dramas per platform. So no need to watch dramas you are not enjoying bc a lot of things will drop in the next few days.

Heheh I used to do that too. That's how HK taxi drivers used to ask if I am from Singapore or Malaysia!

The golden age of wuxia was from the 1960s to the 1980s. China barely even had a film industry then. All the great wuxia writers were from HK, Taiwan and even Malaysia. China was never a part of it and as hard as they try to make Jin Yong's work more "Chinese" they never quite succeed. Part of it is because wulin or jianghu is always anti-establishment. China always dumbs that part down bc they are very authoritarian and not that comfortable with the rebellious undertones to it.

The end of 14 and the whole of 15 were my favorite parts tbh.
Yeah I am putting it on hold for now. Sometimes if I wait a few days and continue its easier to push through.

Jackson is from Hunan his Mandarin also has strong Canto tones that he can't get rid of. It takes years. Most Chinese who like old/ancient Chinese love Canto and try to speak it. Many of my mainland friends who live here try to learn.

The thing is wuxia is a genre that largely grew out of the Chinese diaspora. The mainlanders loved it but I don't think they ever really understood it bc during its heyday the books were all banned in China and had to be smuggled in.

Yes the Canto people always prefer to speak their own dialect. That is why actors like Xu Kai have to be dubbed all the time,. The southern Chinese are so rebellious they refuse to kowtow to the Mandarins. Fujianese are like that too, still insist on speaking their dialect even if their Mandarin is very perfect. But in Beijing its different they are very snobbish about proper Mandarin. If you can't speak it well they think you are uneducated and not worthy engaging with. My Beijing friends refuse to watch Longest Day in ChangΓ‘n bc they said Jackson Yee (who is another Southern boy) speaks terrible peasant type Mandarin he couldn't play an elite and highly educated prodigy from the capital.🀱🏻 That's why my company was very insistent we all learn proper standard Mandarin. I had Mainland colleagues in my classes as well who also had obvious local dialects.πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Possible but it failed. Young people in China mostly watch short dramas and only chase idols. That is why we have a whole generation of so many bad Chinese so called actors who can't even speak their own lines. The old TVB dramas everyone was live recorded there was no such thing as dubbing or dubbing by professional voice actors unless it was in another dialect or language.

Not your style of drama?
I thought the story was interesting but I don't like any of the main characters and the execution is bland. I almost wish it were bad but its not. It is worse than bad, its just boring. Doesn't draw me in to continue so I just click on it when I am really bored. Its just my viewing experience, obviously good for other people who do enjoy it.

I think it has done alright. I mean its Jin Yong so many fans will watch even if its not that good. But I think the ratings won't be good. All in though I think Tencent will make decent money on it. Its quite obvious the budget isn't high - besides ZYW there are no A list actors or expensive idols. A lot of it was shot in studio behind a green scene and there are no spectacular sets and not many changes of costume for any of the main characters and a shabbily dressed Huang Yaoshi to boot!

even the double someone rate 1. let alone this drama.
Well I don't rule out the drama can deviate from the novel so I was watching on its own merits. I just find watching a main character who thinks the whole world revolves around them kind of distasteful and boring whether or not they are redeemable so I have stalled out for now. All I am trying to say is LOTS of women don't like this show either its not a gender thing although I would be quite surprised if any men actually do like it. That is not to say you can't rate this anything you think it deserves. Its your rating idk why people think they have a right to bully others into rating things their way.

Lol - I am not a man but I don't like Li Rong either so please don't call this a made for women drama. Lots of the gals I like chatting with have dropped this already which you can see by just scrolling through the main feed. Li Rong is really hard to like she is self-centered, conceited, vain, stupid and completely lacking in EQ and empathy. She does not deserve the patience and support of the PWX. The fact that I can't see any redeeming value to her character after so many episodes also downgrades PWX for me. He can do so much better. If I were him and had a second chance, I would run as fast and as far away as possible. So many woman in the kingdom, no need to kiss her highness' boots. All that said, I think she is realistic - she is a princess after all. They are not brought up to give a shit about other people's feelings!

Episode 31, 32 ???
I don't think the MDL airing calendar is correct. The official calendar shows that ep 29 and 30 air today and tomorrow. So 31 and 32 probably only come over the weekend/next week.
