Title The Double
He clearly knows he is wrong and did bad and will reap what he sow; he just doesnt have a backbone when faced…
He should have confided in her. But its better he didn't bc if he did, they would probably still be together.

Well if we evaluate him by the Confucian standards of his time, he is just being filial because his mother comes before his wife.

To some extent, he was just a pawn caught in a power struggle. Cheng Wang was after the gold mines and the Xue family was in the way. They would have all been mowed down even if he stood with his wife.

It’s not bad but it’s so scratch on the surface that I started rewatching 1983.
Yeah those dudes are lucky they weren't born in ancient China. With their looks, they are all NOs in that period.

Title The Double
Personally I found Shuran arc was dragging
Yup, me too. The drama has totally lost momentum for me at this point.

Well he is a bit of a dumb dumb but he is not that stupid and he is very righteous so he can tell the good guys from bad guys. He is just not strategic so Yang Kang etc can run circles around him. Without Huang Rong he'd have had a very short life.

I quite liked Ariel Lin's Huang Rong as well but I didn't like Hu Ge's Guo Jing so I dropped that version. She was terrific in Prince of Lanling. I didn't watch Athena Chu's version but she has the right aura for Huang Rong. The rest are good actresses I don't dislike them but they are too insipid to be Huang Rong.
As for JOL2, I didn't ship Haitang Duoduo with FX, I think together they are both too spirited it would be exhausting. To me, Wan''er/Li Qin quiet beauty is perfect for him.

At this stage he should only be quite spoiled and a bit amoral but this version made him outright evil bc they are speeding through his story. His stepfather is Jurchen/Jin. They are invading Southern Song so they are the enemy for sure.

The narration is too fast and chaotic, making the characters two-dimensional almost like reading a comic. Luckily…
I don't mind they rush through the main characters bc we know them so well already. I am keen to see how they do with the side character stories, which are rushed through in other adaptations. I was thinking if iQiyi drops Strange Tales S2, I will just skip Hot Blooded and just wait for the other 4 chapters. But they went with Follow Your Heart instead.

Yeung Panpan was quite lovely but in this horrifyingly tragic way. I felt sorry for her at first sight. At least this one looks like a happy normal person.😅

I’m surprised our dude has survived this long lol. So SML is his sworn brother and enemy, I take it?
Their fathers were sworn brothers and tied them together even before they were born. They are parallel characters - one who grew up among the Mongols and the other among the Jurchens.

Lol - don't hold your breath - she should pop up soon enough! I think the cast list is just incomplete.

Title The Legend of Heroes Spoiler
This is Jin Yong's most popular work and part of China's cultural heritage. No one would dare chop it up. They…
Yeah the story was first told as a daily update in The Mingpao newspaper where he was editor. Kind of like Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. It was then compiled and edited into print version. He revised many of his books a few times, especially in his later years after he ran out of ideas. A friend of mine knew him well - she taught him how to play Go. She used to tease him about his male characters, esp Guo Jing being the ultimate male fantasy of a good guy but a bit of a dumb dumb that all the women want. I won't tell you the ending of Guo Jing and Huang Rong's story. Just leave it at LOCH.

Both the 1983 and 1996 adaptations of the Swordsman are good, I don't have a particular favorite.

I think its the best casting for this adaptation.
I think this one is ok so far, I am more or less ok with the cast. I just think the narrative is too rushed and doesn't do the story justice or build the characters properly.

The problem with mainland adaptation is they like to cast quiet beauties like Li Yitong, Bao Shengen etc as FL bc that is their beauty standard. But Huang Rong is a lively, vivacious and slightly wicked beauty with sparkling eyes. She is much more like Xin Zhilei as opposed to Li Qin which is also the whole JOL2 debate.

I like the first season 😁😁😁, didn't know that they really made s2, now u mention it 😍
Yeah their chemistry in FYH looked hot. If I have time I will watch them all but I am fairly busy and if something has to give, its definitely gonna be LOH.

If something better comes along I can put LOH on holds or back burner it. So far I don’t think it’s that good.
