Title Lost in the Shadows Spoiler
NOT A SPOILER JUST MY WORKING THEORY. No one knows the solution as this is an original script. 1984: Lao Jin was…
Right now the top suspect has to be Lao Jin. He always was trying to get rid of the kid. And the real Bian Jie was a bad kid.

I think Di Yu was running away from loan sharks and conveniently disappeared with the other two boys but I think his dad always knew he wasn't really missing. When Bian Jie resurfaced he came back to blackmail him over Wang Shuai, knowing he could get money from him to pay off his debts. I think the real Bian Jie never made it back alive to meet him.

There probably will be more twists as there are many questions still as others have pointed out.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade either but that was not only a qin, there was a whole ensemble of many other instruments going on with both performances.

Mini dramas used to be self censored which means not really censored.

Short films also have to be censored starting mid last year. But it’s less strict if the audience is expected to be not mainstream or not wide.

I don’t know about the globe. Yes all good questions. I also think mom knows something which is why Jin is mucking with her meds. But I think 1996 Bian Jie is just Xiao Qi a lost boy. He doesn’t know what happened on 4/17 1993. I do wonder what he dug up but remember that Qin Yong dug there too and all he found were dog bones…

If we're talking about ep 14, I don't think he enjoyed being with her Princess at all. It's all an act on his…
I think the princess saw him and decided she wanted him and that was that. He was too weak to stand up to her but she would have crushed them both but at least they can die romantically together like Romeo and Juliet with no betrayal between them. Not to mention his mother and sister forced his hand as well by framing and shaming her. That said what really bugs me is it seems like every time the dude is a scumbag in Chinese dramas like this there seems to be a woman what is an even bigger scumbag pulling his strings. Why can’t he just be a bad guy instead of whitewashed or made somewhat empathetic like this and the princess has to be the one that has to be wicked beyond redemption???

1984:
Lao Jin was trying to get rid of Bian Jie after marrying Meizhen. He probably tried to drown him and also sold him to human traffickers. But they took Doudou instead due to the clothes swap. This is probably bc he wanted a biological son and under the 1-child policy neither he nor Meizhen are qualified anymore. But if Bian Jie disappears/dies Meizhen can have another biological child. Idk what happened later on that made him stop trying to get rid of Bian Jie. Maybe bc Meizhen went half nuts at the almost drowing?

1993:
Bian Jie killed Wang Shuai and was caught trying to steal money from Lao Jin's safe to run away. He was caught by his sister who knocked him out and then Lao Jin came home. He confessed and Lao Jin gave him money to run away after they dispose of Wang Shuai's body. He told Bian Jie they should bury Wang Shuai in his grandmother's grave. After the Bian Jie helps him dump the body in the grave he knocks him out and buried all 3 of them with the old lady. Either that or he cremated all three of them together. All the potted plants are being fed fertiliser from their ashes. I think Bian Jie is definitely dead bc Lao Jin is unconcerned about him coming back but maybe the sister doesn't everything her dad did.

I hope Doudou is actually Xiao Qi even though that would be cheesy. Otherwise this story is too dark.

Yeah but the price drops by more than half bc advertisers know from the view counts that many people already saw it on both legal and illegal channels.

Yeah but the slots are mostly sold out before the drama airs when no one knows whether its good. So its possible the dreadful FSMM made quite a bit of money as well... Market is very soft right now. When the economy was hot they could air multiple dramas on multiple platforms and sell out all the ad slots as well...

Yes and I think FSMM got a fair bit too bc they have a schedule for non-VIP. So you can imagine between the two, a dark horse like The Double got nothing.

It sold zero ads. You can always tell by whether there is a non-VIP airing schedule. That is not to say they can't sell ads later on and make it free for non VIP a few months from now.

Yes it is an A category production. To my knowledge the promotion is only what was already in the budget. Yu Zheng is good about that, he supports his actors and that is why there was that line in the drama. They didn't do more bc all the ad budgets got soaked up by JOL2 already and that is also why there is no non-VIP schedule for this. No free viewing means no ads so no extra promotion. Despite the high ranking on view charts, the return is only good and not great.

Yeah that's not accurate bc the platforms never officially disclose the project rating, it is strictly internal. So that is Yunhe's guess I wouldn't consider it gospel. Fox Spirit is only S for iQiyi bc iQiyi does not have S+ projects. S is their highest.

I saw that and asked iQiyi directly about it. They said no such thing. The budget and all the investment is set at the start. Even if they spend more money promoting it, it is not big relative to the original cost. In fact the internal project team don't want the budget to get jacked up, bc their return will go down then and their bonuses are based on the return and not the budget. I think you are confusing the projects return on investment with its budget. If it is successful the return of course goes up a lot.
