Yes that is how it looks for now but what makes me pause is that it seems a bit too obvious that Lao Jin is the bad guy from day 1. I can't help but wonder if Meizhen is not as simple as she looks and if Xiao Qi is really Bian Jie and the mother and son are plotting to destroy Lao Jin bc they are not happy in this marriage/household. I think this is a brilliant suspense drama bc there are still so many plausible ways this can go.

Its a real pity about Zhao Ge bc WJY played Daji, the greatest jezebel in Chinese history and literature. I would love to see her in that role. I am sure she would have delivered a vastly superior interpretation than the sexy but shallow and mindless portrayal from that gorgeous Russian actress in Creation of Gods.

Well said - so many comments make me think are we even watching the same drama??? Duke Su may be a sexy beast it is normal for her to at least notice that. But that is it. Like you said, after what she went through, that is not enough to turn her head or distract her from her mission. If she were already love-brained I would roll my eyes and drop this right here.

Except in real life a long guqin performance can indeed be quite sad but in a coma inducing kind of way.... I have no issue with how they exaggerated the instrument and enhanced it with multiple other string instruments. I once was invited to and had to sit through a private master guqin performance that had to be one of the most boring events I ever attended in my life.

I think Lao Jin may be telling the truth about Bian Jie being adopted. I think initially he tried to get rid of the kid bc he wanted to have a biological child with Bian Meizhen. But at some point she confided in him that she is infertile and Bian Jie was adopted. That is why Lao Jin stopped trying to get rid of Bian Jie - bc he realized Bian Meizhen can't have kids. Her first hubby probably bought Bian Jie from child traffickers. So he has no blood relationship with Bian Meizhen and he has a twin Xiao Qi somewhere. There is of course also the possibility that Xiao Qi doesn't exist. That he is Bian Jie pretending to be Xiao Qi instead of Xiao Qi pretending to be Bian Jie.
So many possibilities! This show is good!!!

I wonder why Lao Jin kept the bloody knife. Could it be that the real Bian Jie is still alive so he kept it as insurance? What if the plot twist is that Xiao Qi is really Bian Jie pretending to be Xiao Qi? I can't help but wonder bc his affection for his mother seems real.

I think the sister may have been the one to knock him out. And then they found the bloody knife and that is when the dad probably took him away. But I think he was most likely still alive when the sister last saw him.

@fancy is correct. You are your father's sister's kids' maternal cousin. Bc you are related to them on their mother's side. If you think about it as no marriage between cousins of the same surname it works all the time. Of course modern science has shown that first cousins should not marry period but that didn't take root in China until the 1980s believe it or not. It was very common for maternal cousins to marry to keep wealth and influence within the same family circles. Not that dissimilar from European nobility.
