Tyvm. If you like QJJ this is a must watch . Don’t worry about the politics, they are mostly in the background and can be ignored. You just need to know Tongmenghui are the good guys and the Japanese are the bad guys and everyone else in between is grey. There is enough going on with the treasure hunt and character arcs to keep you engaged without the politics. Hope you enjoy!

Yeah Qing dynasty had some really different and very specific succession rules which made it impossible for Zaifeng to succeed. So Cixi chose his son Puyi instead and made him regent. It is also for the same reason the fictional Prince Qi could never ascend the throne either.

Well Side Story of Fox Volant also led by Qin Junjie is a Qing period wuxia. And the one everyone raves about is Nothing Gold Can Stay. I haven't watched it I have been saving it for a rainy day. I also enjoyed Cheongsam Master. The other underrated one that may most resemble this in terms of dark comedy is Fearless Blood but its post Qing, maybe 20 years after this .
