Smart chap because the lieutenant position grant him authority and manpower to continue the investigation case.
Exactly. MSD didn't understand that part.

I have a feeling Lucky is Sun Wen himself. The one stain on Sun Wen is he had a big thing for teenaged girls.…
True, people either get his humor or they don't. But I admit I think his last 3 movies were a lot less good.

Let's see how it goes. I was worried bc of the sensitive period but so far I haven't seen any evidence of bad cuts yet.

Can someone who has read the novel tell me how that ends? I heard they go a different route for the drama and…
I didn't read the novel but this is what I understand from someone who did. In the book, He Shan and Fei Ke planned the event. She knew Fei Ke the longest and she was helping him get together all the people he cheated along the way. None of them them are good people but neither was Fei Ke. He got his start in life from money he cheated from them and made a huge bundle. But he was dying of cancer. He basically gave away all his money back to them after they told their stories.

Idk bc Chinese censors are very sensitive about showing overthrow of government even when it is a historical event. So this countdown they are talking about in the drama is to Mangzhong which is usually in May or June but in history the 1911 Revolution that ended the monarchy took place in October. I suspect this drama will end before that happens and they may end up not really showing it but just mentioning it in an epilogue.

They can fictionalize small stuff but the big events and important figures cannot distort history. Those two were super important figures and that is probably why this one struggled for a long time with censorship.

WJL disrespects MSD bc he sees MSD as an overrated imperial guard who no longer has an emperor to protect.MSD…
The martial world is anti-establishment by definition - in history and fiction. Its a huge betrayal but in this case it may just hasten the changing tide. The poor kid in Rongtian sect right before he was killed by WJL already was planning to complete the mission and leave the sect to join Tongmenghui. All 3 main protagonists are foolishly clinging to the past against the overwhelming tide, in some cases betraying their fundamental principles to do so.

If ZBF is capable of thinking critically or even listening to what others are telling him, there would be no more sect. The reason he keeps it a secret that they work for Prince Gong is bc that is the ultimate betrayal of martial world values. No self respecting sect allows themselves to be a running dog of the court. He is as silly and unrealistic as MSD and WJL.

For sure she was a disciple before that - he used to call her his shimei/枈ćŠč or sect sister. In any case I hope we don't waste episodes on them. This should not be about romance.

In history Tongmenghui and Beiyang faction overthrow the monarchy and form the republic together but Sun Wen resigns to allow the power hungry Yuan Shikai to assume the Presidency. That very soon proved disastrous but the point is they ultimately joined forces. And obviously the Japanese are there to be defeated by the Chinese but any victory is also short lived bc the Japanese colonized big parts of China for many years after that.

Yeah I have the same feeling and it is generally true of dramas this period - many if not all of the main characters die.

To me their entire dynamic smacks of a toxic relationship and she is the toxic party. She could have refused or poisoned her dirty old master but she didn't and she doesn't hold herself accountable at all. Instead she unleashes her resentment by viciously poisoning any and every one else that crosses her path. In any case its a poorly written part of the story bc master disciple relationships are taboo. I don't think though that she gets ZBF killed bc if they all die, it will be for some glorious cause and not bc of some mentally unstable poison master.
