After that there is a lot of internal politics which is very boring and very complicated and goes on for years so they won't want to drag the story on into that.

Ep 5 mentions 2 times it is the 3rd year of the Xuantong era. Which means 3rd year of Puyi emperor's reign which began 1908 = 2011. The time frame should be a few months until the Puyi emperor abdicates in Oct 2011.
