The FL is a business woman. I have commented before that she is utilitarian; she has to be. You don't have to like her she is not exactly my favorite character either but I think she is quite consistently written. I was simply observing there is no such thing as a balanced relationship except maybe when accountants date so that is not a yardstick I consider important in evaluating relationships real or fictional. Hopefully the emperor sees it exactly that way too! I am not a huge romance fan so less is more and this one isn’t particularly memorable to me. The idea of balanced relationships sounds incredibly Hollywoke and tiresome to me. I think relationships are inherently unbalanced bc they should not be about keeping score on who gives more or less. But we all have our own preferences and in any case since I actively avoid the genre I am not up to date on the latest trends.

She broke up with him in the security bureau in plain sight of all the emperor’s eyes and ears. She trusts GYX to know her well enough to read between the lines. Yeah I think the writers have somehow written themselves into a corner in terms of how GYX frees himself and will have to resort to a cop out he dies in a hunting accident or something like that. I think rationality and maturity rather than passion is the foundation of this romance so I just don’t expect either of them to be prostrate with grief. Especially when no one died and it’s more a break rather than a break up. HZ has been strong enough that however she processes this can’t take away from her character imho.

I think HZ isn’t that sad about the breakup bc she knows it’s temporary. She’s just giving GYX space to extricate himself from the emperor and distancing herself and her family to avoid endangering them in any fallout; marrying off as many of her cousins as possible. Sure she misses him but in the meantime she has lots of wood to chop. Grandpa isn’t getting younger and she has to gather enough money to ransom them all as the nation careens towards famine. She may as well take care of her business while GYX takes care of his. Is it a bit too practical? Maybe but it’s totally in character for who she is.
