White Lotus is fantastic but DO NOT Google it. It won some awards and the actor in their speech gives a GIANT SPOILER for S2. So just watch and scroll past all the Google news on it. Its on Prime Video and Hulu.
I don't get Disney here either. I am waiting for it to be available for rent or purchase on AppleTV.

My mom loved Yanxi Palace she has been pushing me to watch it but I hate harem dramas. I am thinking of watching it on the treadmill.
I have also been meaning to watch Only Murder in the Building but I haven't figured out how to watch it yet bc we don't have Hulu here. I really loved White Lotus and can't wait for S3.

Lol - same here! I am always looking for dramas for my folks to pass time. My mom is a serious history buff so she has watched many more serious historical dramas than I have. I also prefer to watch mystery and detective but I think still the Western dramas do those genres a bit better. Chinese drama is improving though.

The Tan Jianci/Ma Tianyu Secret of the Three Kingdoms version is more like a highly fictionalized Dumas novel and contains even more wild history than Advisors Alliance/Growling Tiger. The original historical classic was made in 2010 and 1994 and both versions are highly praised.

I think they are both on YouTube. My folks have the DVD versions and have watched both.

I just think its not that coherent if you don't know all the background bc the way details are conveyed by exposition is boring and it doesn't get the audience invested in the characters. My mom tried to watch this and abandoned it. She said she can't tell what is going on or easily keep track of the different factions and she doesn't want to rewind/take notes and try to figure it out.
