I would observe the politics seem to be holding the plot back at the moment rather than moving it forward.

Apparently Romance of the Three Kingdoms is much better but its so long and such a dated production I am reluctant to start it. Not to mention that there are two versions that 3Kingdoms fans are divided over which is the best.

I rarely watch romance dramas so 2024 so year is a nothing burger for me.

I think 2024 so far is one of the worst years in c-dramas since maybe 2019. I did enjoy Advisor Alliance and I am a 3 Kingdoms fan as well but that is a high bar to compare anything to.

It’s not bad and stupid scheming but at end of the day the plan is straightforward they just talk a lot in code and there is a lot of words behind the words that make it look more complex than it really is. Advisors Alliance is different it’s based on real history and a battle between China’s top strategists using classical language and ancient art of war. Of course that would be a different level of sophistication.

I think it’s hilarious but your sense of humor must be different. I do agree there is too much politic talking when the scheme is straightforward and not that complicated.

Thanks for your comments. The book sounds a lot more interesting than the drama for sure! Drama adaptations almost always water down great dark characters! I only finished this bc I watched the second half of it on the treadmill.

Considering this is iQiyi and they just destroyed another very beloved novel, I would not rule out their ability to enrage novel fans...

Where is the fun if there is one all powerful figure that can mow down entire armies? I am quite sure there will be limits to what he can do that makes it just an advantage but not an all powerful one.

Tyvm, I wish they had the usual cheesy cartoon intro at the beginning that tells us what the world looks like instead of having non book/donghua peeps like me trying to figure it out... It really does look like GOT.

Well its a xuanhuan, kind of like a Western fantasy. The Zichuan family is the ruling family and like most Chinese dynasties, there is a separation and thus a balance of power between the general that guards the capital (Yang Minghua) and the one that guards the border (Ge Yingxing). The ruling family doesn't rule all the lands and there are many fief lords with varying degrees of loyalty to them.
