Yeah I think the level is not that important and it's not about skill - they are all trained the same way. It's an assassin's guild so they level up by successfully completing important missions. I hope YWS is not that high a level bc she'd have to be very ruthless get there. The level has to do with deeds and not just skill. As SGQ said, she did some really terrible things to become a Mei. Chī mèi wǎng liǎng/魑 魅 魍 魉 is a Chinese idiom meaning the darkness of the human heart. So the higher level they go, the more ruthless/dark they are. The twist could be YWS is a liǎng/魉 but if that is the case, she is an antagonist and the villain of the piece. I don't rule it out but its not my current base case.

Actually technically he passed the Lotus Ice Pond trial on his own. All he needed to do was persevere and go for the box. Had YWS not popped out, they'd have saved him and he'd have passed anyway. So he didn't cheat to win that trial. And it sounds like the way GSJ passed it was still superior. But that is not and should not be the only criteria to choose a Sword Wielder.
