I think they just wanted to create some division within Section 7 and they needed someone to kill of Ya Nei's dad in a shocking way so two birds, one stone. I was kind of expecting Ya Nei to be killed off. I think Wang Juan is just commercial, he realized if he kills any off any of them, he can never revive Section 7 again. I don't think there is another season coming though, definitely not with this same cast anyway. But they are his original creations I guess he is rather attached to them.

Mango is very commercial about budget and making money so I guess I understand that. They don't have tons of money to lose in dramas like the other 3 platforms.

Maybe that's how Fan Xian survives S1 as well - as an immortal...

But I think the fact the Western Xia chancellor let them go is a bit of wishful thinking. In reality he’d have killed them dead.

I think in spy stories there are no villains they are just on opposite sides and have to try to kill each other.

This is best appreciated with really good subs which I think Mango is putting a proper effort into. I checked out the dramacool ones they are just serviceable but lose all the best parts of the dialogue. People who watch it later will have a much better experience.

He is so funny and yummy in that otherwise terrible drama!!!

I was surprised you picked it up against since you didn’t like it from the start. It has to follow history so not much they can do about how it ends.

He stole and saved the show in Miss the Dragon. I think he had no chemistry with Chen Duling in TTEOM and those weren’t well written roles either. Sometimes pairings just don’t work and that is why I said he was miscast here. I just watched a movie starring Zhu Yilong and Ni Ni where they both did a great job but have zilch chemistry.

I have seen him do a better job in other roles. A lot of times he just looks stunned or some expression that doesn’t quite match the scene. I don’t think he is a bad actor but he is just not ready for this role.

I really think Deng Wei was mis-cast and his perpetual deer in the headlights expression bugged the crap out of me. The biggest problem is it makes me wonder WTF Xiaoyao sees in him. Ugh!!! I would give this a 10 if it were not for this turkey.

Originally I was planning to title my review "Section 7 MIA" but that would have been spoiler heavy which I hate to do and the ending and villains did shore it up so I didn't go there. YTG is a real jerk but if he died to save them he'd still be useless and terrible but they'd actually "owe" him. Yikes!
I don't even know this Wang Fei dude and I have already put him on my shit list. I am so happy he is getting lots of grief for it. Geez!
I still am mad at Wang Juan for killing off Wang Yang's character in JOL.

Yeah they are both good actors and their facial expressions bring out the characters more which is why you use experienced actors. Only to basically filter out the wrinkles and make their faces look blank. May as well just go with a blank young actor. smh.

I think as someone else commented before, it was done on purpose to recall how low budget S1 was.
