Agree completely. Up until this, I liked his Ning Chuan best but this has far exceeded it. He is terrifying with his dark humor, I just love it so much that I will be almost sorry to see him get taken down. I thought he kind of flopped in My Heroic Husband, it was his worst project in recent memory.
I have to take a moment to appreciate Hai Yitian, the actor who plays Yuan Hao. This dude pops up as an antagonist in one out of 3 or 4 dramas I watch. The moment he pops up I know he is a baddie and he consistently pulls it off well that you kind of just expect it of him. But I have to say his Yuan Hao is another level of complexity. Strictly speaking he isn’t exactly a villain, he is just an aggressive founding emperor of a small state caught between two much bigger states trying to weed out internal traitors. This is written from Song perspective but on a map it looks like West Xia is David and Song is Goliath. In any case this is this actors best role imho since he was Ning Chuan in TROP.

"why we should be sad" I found that part the hardest bc Anle really didn't seem that sad. Dilraba and GJ both never quite got into character. I feel really disappointed bc I was looking forward to Anle more than I was to Lost You Forever. I just always liked Dilraba a lot more than Yang Zi even though objectively I felt their acting skills were about the same. Both are strong women roles but somehow not entirely Dilraba's fault but Anle went so terribly wrong while LYF went so right. YZ knocked my socks off. They are two actresses that started out at the same place but one continued to challenge herself and grow while the other hung out in her comfort zone.
