I was surprised you picked it up against since you didn’t like it from the start. It has to follow history so…
Oh for sure they were quite careful in Longest Day in Changán to not distort the main historical facts and figures. They also avoided using his name there so they could take a few more liberties but he was obviously Li Longji/Emperor Xuanzong and his young consort is of course the tragic Yang Guifei.

The Princess.
It is possible she wants the throne. The plot does draw some inspiration from history even though they are very careful to say this is puurely fictional. The only time in history a Dowager Empress was this powerful, so openly bullied the emperor and women were so free and even held court positions was Wu Tzetian during Tang dynasty. Her daughter Princess Taiping was very smart and independnt but embroiled in many schemes to seize the throne. Maybe this plot is loosely designed based on that.

The rumor is they were just having a fling, neither was serious. But when she got pregnant they got married and then divorced afterwards. Don't think anyone was surprised that is how it worked out. No hearts were broken either.

If she is the most beautiful woman in their kingdom, I can’t imagine the other ones. Just kidding but is too…
Well the Northern Liang were tribal nomadic people. Its harsh weather and life, I can't imagine their women can be as soft, pampered and beautiful as Han women. There were many marriage alliances on both sides where the Han liked to send fake princesses who were really peasent women in disguise to marry into Northern Liang. But its kind of funny bc in reality Xiongnu women were a lot more free and had powerful positions in their society than Han women. Kind of the opposite as the show is suggesting here.

Dramas that feature significant historical figures cannot deviate from official history. Yuan Hao was a real historical figure that founded a dynasty that lasted 200 years. So they have to broadly stick with recorded history. When you are done watching you should just google him and you will see the ending sticks to history. If they wanted to heavily fictionalize it, they would have changed his name and the name of the dynasty.

Well he is his uncle, which means he is in same generation as his father.
👀😅😂.... I didn't read it that way at first!!! Now if that were the case, the Emperor should HELP his mama try to kill him.

To prevent wars they keep having with Western Xia.
Well I think throughout history many princes are too eager to succeed their fathers. Especially if their father has many sons and may change his mind. This one happens to follow history.

I understand her rationale but what doesn't work for me is how she is able to wipe out a 30k army when they are at war no less AND keep a stable of assassins and basically run amok in the palace as well. Women were not that powerful in those times even if they are Dowager Empress. Not to mention how completely useless the Emperor is to know and allow her to do as she likes. He totally deserves to be overthrown and spanked.

Cao Cao should have killed Sima Yi when he had the chance. Then his empire may not have fallen so fast. But in any case Sima family also could not hold on to the throne that long either. The problem with the throne is that it is bloody hard to hold on to even if you manage to inherit or seize it and everyone is a threat.

History is littered with examples of royal family seizing the throne from each other. Tang Taizong killed both his brothers to ascend the throne and one of the later Tang emperors also seized the throne from his nephew. The third Ming emperor (played by the ML Feng Shaofeng in The Imperial Age) also seized the throne from his nephew.

This is how empires fall through time immemorial. But then again, there have been tigers that have seized the throne - Cao Cao and Sima family for example. So its kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't.
