Well A-Listers just mean highest paid Chinese actors. Many but not all of them started as idols or liulangs. Its an accepted industry term, most of them are quite proud of it actually and it's not considered derogatory in and of itself. As to whether they can act it varies by the individual.

Unfortunately under the MDL rules once a user re-writes it , it can no longer be switched back to the official iQyi synopsis or a synopsis from any other site. It makes no sense bc obviously this misses the mark about what the drama is about This is the second drama I have come across with this issue in the last few months. At least this one is not as badly off as the other one was.

I don't think Bai Lu is an A-lister. Those are still the likes of Yang Mi, Zhao Liying, Sun Li etc. ZRY is and that is why his iQiyi drama is a short (14 episodes) only. According to the rules the most they could have paid him is RMB 14mm for that.

iQiyi broke even for the first time in Q4 last year. Q1 this year was their best quarter ever but they only made around RMB 600mm bc they had The Knockout. iQiyi's biggest budget S-dramas are a about ~Rmb 200mm. Only Tencent and Youku still make S/ S+ dramas that can be RMB 300-400mm+. Actor pay is the biggest budget item and is now capped at the lower of RMB50mm/lead actor/drama or RMB 1mm/actor/episode. In LBFAD both Wang Hedi and Yu Shuxin are far from A-listers. I doubt at even now they can ask for RMB 1mm/episode. That is iQiyi's strategy - they avoid hiring the super expensive A-listers. That is also why they made so much on The Knockout in Q1 this year- it was a mega hit with zero idol actors. Things got really crazy in 2018 with actors like Sun Li, Zhao Wei, Fan Bingbing etc make 60-100mm RMB per drama. That is for 1 actor so you can imagine drama costs went up to RMB 500-600mm per drama. Some were rumored to be even more than that. These days no one will do that anymore. Even Tencent and Alibaba have told their TV digital entertainment business they have to at least break even. iQiyi is the most profitable this year so far but if they have to write off Kunning Palace they will be barely profitable again.

Nope, that is absolutely not what they have promised their investors which include PAG who helped stop them from going bankrupt. Their content cost per quarter has declined from a peak of over RMB 8bn to only just about RMB 4bn in the latest quarter even though the absolute number of dramas they have made have gone up. This is public information you can go look for yourself.
