Well its not mainstream but it is not unusual either. After all polygamy was only outlawed in Asia not very long ago. Both where I live now and where I grew up I have friends whose fathers have more than one wife and I am friends with more than one of the half siblings. I now live in a city that saw one of the largest wealth creations in the past 2-3 decades so its not uncommon to see much older men with much younger women. I find it completely understandable from both parties POV.

Besides Faye, Jackie Cheung is also still around - I went to his last concert 3x. Grasshopper was discovered by Anita Mui. They used to open for her. That's why I love that 半點心 song, it has the same kind of beat she uses in her most famous songs.
It is indeed too bad about the HK-dramas. All the best HK directors are now shooting c-dramas. You can even still hear them speaking Cantonese on-set in many of the BTS. I hope one day China will let us make c-dramas in Cantonese again. All the Jin Yong stories should not be shot in Mandarin when they were written in Cantonese. All the names are "wrong" in Mandarin.

Yeah I grew up on Canto-pop and was never able to get into Mando-pop. It used to be the only thing people listened to in China but as a result of govt policy to move to standard Mandarin, it was "discouraged" for a long time and they even started to "encourage" Mandarin versions of these song (the one you linked above is actually the Mandarin version but obviously sung by a Canto speaker in the "wrong" deeper Canto tone). Mainland Chinese still flock to HK Canto-pop concerts here bc they were never able to erase widespread love for Canto-pop, esp for male vocals. But lately they started to bring back Cantonese in many dramas - I have heard it in The Bad Kids and they even spoke it very widely in Homesick and The Knockout. I think its a purposeful softening bc one of the main sources of rage HK Cantonese people have with China is how our language is being suppressed and erased by govt policy.

Asia is a huge place so I am sure there are differences in norms. But in my city I would hesitate to rant about it in a social setting bc it would easily offend a lot of people around me. I personally think it is out dated to suggest to women they don’t have the right to choose who they date so it’s not something I would raise anyway. Kissing scenes get deleted all the time I am not sure that means anything.
