Yeah that entire arc was utterly ridiculous. It also would never happen. No imperial consort would ever be able to waltz around town like that or live in a place where men can easily frequent and especially not one the emperor wishes to marry. A lot of suspension of disbelief is needed here. Even the harem was so easy to stroll in and out of you would think she lives in an inn and not the palace.

There is a famous old movie about it - The Last Eunuch of China, which was a bit of a spoof on The Last Emperor of China. In any case, there is a scene where the Last Eunuch goes to retrieve his preserved parts hung in a giant chamber so that when they die they can be buried intact.

It doesn't bother me at all either. But its interesting that in shows like Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, Sword Snow Stride and this one, there is so much annoyance directed at the FL when she barely gets any screen time and is an irrelevant character. I only get irritated if a FL I don't like gets tons of screen time. Just not the case here.

I don't understand why he allowed his younger brother to enter the palace as a eunuch but I can only guess he was already past the age where he can undergo the procedure safely but his brother was not. In which case the brother was a real eunuch but one that had a "wife". If his brother was a real eunuch, then he is safe bc it doesn't expose his death offense. It just gets him in hot soup with Yinlou bc she assumes he would only marry for love. I suspect the evil horny empress was molesting his brother and probably drove him to his death.

She is not just any married lady, she is an imperial consort. At all times, her hair should be up. Except when she is in her private quarters in the inner palace where unrelated men are not allowed to enter. Then she can be dishabille and leave it down. Technically Xiao Duo and her maids are part of the inner palace/harem staff. They can be allowed to see her on occasion informally attired. In any case this setting is largely fictional so they can take some liberties with the "rules".

I think the emperor is the main villain so far but there could be someone pulling the strings that made him execute his own brother. That person is probably the mastermind but has not emerged yet (I think).
