No, now it is pretty much you can have as many as you want but no one seems to want to have kids anymore. China's population went into decline this year for the first time. Govt is freaking out over it. Technically there were many loopholes and exceptions to the one child policy anyway - esp in rural and wealthier counties and among certain ethnic minorities. Technically it was just a one houku per family policy which means if you have more than one child then those subsequent children are out of the system and ineligible for state health care, education, housing etc. Like it is as if they don't exist but lots of more affluent people just simply paid for all of that themselves. The policy started in 1980s and ended in 2016. There are actually quite a few actors in that age range that have siblings including Wu Lei...

Yeah that was in response to the very recent ban agains "girlish" or overly effeminate male characterisations. That kind of stuff is fast and easy to fix with CGI and editing though and doesn't merit cutting entire scenes. I mean all the "Japanese" sashes were also edited out of LLTG.

Well iQiyi is teetering on the verge of bankruptcy they really need to reduce their cash conversion cycle. They also have had a lot better luck with getting dramas through review lately than Tencent and Youku and there are many complaints editing and cut scenes with their dramas - ie Double Love, SOTM etc. They are just trying to shorten the process as much as possible but it is clearly affecting their quality. I understand that but then blaming censors for cut romantic scenes kind of makes the regulators just look bat shit crazy. China is trying very hard to promote a 3 child policy so I hardly think they can be censoring romance.

Ah ok my mistake on timing then, I saw somewhere it was June 2022. Nonetheless, I don't think the cut scenes are controversial enough to trigger the censors and the dead give away remains the fact that they have been released and they just don't look like great shots. Truly sensitive cut scenes like those from Royal Nirvana for example have never seen the light of day. Legend of Anle which was also shooting from July 2021 is still stuck in censorship review so this is still very fast but of course that has much more controversial content around rebellion.

It usually takes 12-24 months from booting to get something to airing stage with just shooting taking 4-6 months. Censorship takes the longest, especially for controversial content. The way to shorten it is to just cut the scene without trying to fix it and avoid going through the review process multiple times. I always adjust my expectations when something drops very fast. 😅😀

The Chinese censorship board is ridiculous but their guidelines are quite clear and none of this content should trigger a hatchet job review. This is just an excuse iQiyi is using for a rushed and sloppy production. The booting ceremony for this was in late June this year. They rushed to finish it when they saw LBFAD which aired in August was such a huge and unexpected hit. In less than 6 months this thing is airing - that almost never happens. The cut scenes are not controversial at all and do not check any of the censorship board's no list and it is a fictional dynasty with no fixed time period and no reference to any real historical figures. They just didn't bother to go through multiple rounds of censorship review and just cut any scenes the censors asked them to clarify instead of fixing it and going through further rounds with the censors. From the clips most of them are not even controversial the regulators would have to be mad to cut them. They were just not good enough shots of those planned scenes to make it into the final cut although they may have been able to fix it with more time. The real give away is truly sensitive cut scenes never get released. It defeats the purpose of censorship to cut a scene and then allow it to leak out later. iQiyi is just making excuses for sloppy work bc they wanted to drop this ASAP to capitalise on Wang Hedi's popularity. It's a shame bc this could have clearly been a much better effort with more time. I would also point out Douyin now has a cooperation agreement with iQiyi on promoting dramas. I would view anything leaked out there with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Yes, it is the same actor as emperor and I believe there are some very clear allusions to NIF. In NIF the emperor kills his brother in law and not his own brother. Xiao Se vs Lin Shu aka Xiao Shu is not his nephew but his own son but he also is a know all that lost all his martial arts.

I don’t think these scenes were cut by the censors. If they were you wouldn’t even be able to see the clips at all. They all just look a little bit awkward and/or clumsy and I think the director rushed to wrap this without getting a good enough shot of everything. This went from production to airing in an incredibly short time and it shows in terms of editing. Overly intimate kissing scenes often get cut but these are far from that. And BL scenes, rebellion scenes and or stuff that distorts history are other themes that frequently get cut. This is set in a fictional kingdom and is from no specific dynasty. The content is not controversial. Productions like to blame censors for their own issues bc it’s convenient rather than admit they just did a bad job.
