I couldn't remember where saw ML before, but of course he had a lead part in Reset which was just superb drama.
He was also the unforgettable silent and deadly Gu Nanyi in TRoP, Fang Zhiwei’s bodyguard - “where you are is where I am”.

You could try Young Blood. It is by the Joy of Life screenwriter and its an ensemble cast like this.
Oh that script is done already they will be filming early next year.

Yeah he is probably the best screenwriter but he seems to have too many sequel projects…

Thanks for the article! I find the title “Stories About Not Being Afraid of Ghosts" very amusing 😄 I didn't…
Lol - I am also watching very slowly. I highly recommend reading @Skibbies review before starting.

How is the bromance can i watch it for bromance only?
It is platonic and definitely does not stray well into BL territory
like WOH or Untamed.

Title The Long River Spoiler
There's no FL, it's not interesting at all
He had a big harem but all the highest ranking women seemed to die off pretty young.

The funny thing is all the young ladies in the drama are unruly and unladylike. It is a kingdom full of very naughty…
Maybe she was written like this so we can all better appreciate our mothers.

The mother-daughter dynamic was the most prominent aspect of this drama for me , mainly because it was just unreasonable…

Ah yes, I didn't think of that but it is true that they emphasize there are no ghosts. I guess with xianxia everyone knows its strictly set in the fantasy world whereas ghost stories are set in the mortal realm. Just like time travel or parallel universe stories are always just dreams or someone telling a story, its not "real".

I am quite shocked that she used her own voice in this drama. I just started this drama and yang mi appeared,…
Lol - I think this is the only period drama where she isn’t dubbed by someone else. She only uses her own voice in modern shows which I don’t watch. But she is normally not this bad.

I don’t know much about Zhou Zuoren other than he was part of the New Cultural Movement in the 1920s. Among other things they sought to liberate Chinese from old traditions, thoughts and superstitions that were not compatible with science and modernization. It seems ghost or supernatural stories got caught up with that. China didn’t emerge from the black hole of the cultural revolution and it’s long isolation until the late 1990s. I think that is why even though there has been a revival in ancient ghost stories and xianxia there is much less development in modern ghost stories. I don’t think it is discouraged it is just neglected. It is not surprising bc there is so much rich material to explore in the traditional or ancient world of strange tales about spirits, demons and the underworld that its hard to compete. Not to mention there is also a rich universe of foreign modern ghost stories. But like science fiction did it could suddenly take off with a few well written hits by local web novelists. If you are interested in the New Culture Movement more broadly The Awakening Age is about it and has almost been fully fan subbed on YouTube at this point. I am currently watching it very slowly with my folks.

I think consistent with the article modern ghost stories are not popular but they are mot exactly banned either. I suspect more likely the genre never developed bc it was taboo for some time.

The drama is highly regarded but I think it took liberties with history with regards to Taiping's first husband. His tomb was only recently discovered and I think he was only ever married to Princess Taiping. But not that much is known about him. He didn't live that long, poor guy.

Which husband? Both her marriages were arranged but she loved her first husband, whose story is very similar to Lu Lingfeng’s father. He was killed by Wu Tzetian when his family tried to rebel against her dictatorship. Her second husband was already married so Wu Tzetian killed his wife so that he could marry Princess Taiping. In that sense you could say he was forced to marry her. She cheated on him quite openly throughout.

I think I missed smtg. So, LLF's mom is who I think she is? Then who is the uncle/father who took him away from…
It was his biological father's brother. His father/the Lu family opposed the Wu Zhao dynasty as an illegitimates one and meant to assassinate Wu Tzetian. He was using the princess to get access to her mother but he fell in love with her instead. He allowed himself to be caught/killed. His uncle retrieved him from the monastery to remove him from the sphere of his mother's toxic influence.
