Well the problem is they cast a too handsome actor to play MRF. No woman in her right mind would leave him for TGN unless he is dead or she is blind. I think in the book it was the other way around - TGN is cultured and handsome while MRF is just a rough jianghu thug. But me personally I am 100pct ok with Lin Yushen as MRF - they can do what needs to be done to the story.

You know how Jin Yong loves to have characters from his first novel about the Honghua Society "photobomb" his subsequent stories? Zhao Banshan is one of the leaders of Honghua society who secretly teaches HF some martial arts moves in front of everyone. I think he should have showed up in the Shang castle arc. Its was developmental for HF but not critical to the plot and already people who didn't read the novel are confused by the too many characters. Heck I read the novel years ago and I am confused by the many characters! Its true the NL/TGN scenes should be cut down and I am also liking how ZYZ and HF relationship is developing naturally although in this novel Jin Yong uses the fall in love at first sight and regret later theme a lot.

I may not remember the details correctly but she is in love with Fu Kangán and has an affair with him. She gets pregnant so she goes ahead marries her fiance Xu Zheng and gives birth to twin boys. Fu Kangan betrays her and sends someone to kidnap his kids and have her killed. I think Hu Fei saves them. Shang Baozhen also likes her.

Lol... that would be doing Hu Fei a grave injustice. In Jin Yong novels the doormat girl never gets the guy. That wouldn't be Jin Yong anymore.

Lol - Judging from the comments here I don’t think many think Nan Lan and Tian are perfect in fact they are getting all the hate. Everyone is on MRF’s side no one is blaming him for what happened!

I can see she is trying hard but sadly that makes it worse. hYT looks very handsome here but I just can’t continue. I don’t like the cringe slapstick comedy either.

If I remember correctly there are too many peripheral characters and subplots in the book. The treasure subplot is one of those that goes nowhere and is not important to the main plot. Clearly they got rid of it and had to change Tian Guinong’s motivation. I don’t think Nan Lan is less flawed here and the fact that she and MRF are incompatible to begin with hasn’t changed. The story remains broadly intact. Similarly as much as I like how Honghua Society frequently pops up in the Jin Yong universe they probably omit it for simplicity. As I mentioned before I am not attached to the original works, especially the women and so far like the changes to the characters, especially Yuan Ziyi. But if you are very attached to the original works I believe there are many adaptations that have stuck to it. As for me, I really appreciate the attempt to make a more appealing version bc I always like Hu Fei a lot and I feel Jin Yong very badly short changed him as far as the women in his life are concerned. It’s great that this has been adapted enough times there is a version out there for everyone. So far, the reactions I have read on the Chinese sites praise this version for making the actions of characters like Nan Lan and Yuan Ziyi more understandable and acceptable to modern viewers. That said, I do think Yuan Ziyi has stolen some of Hu Fei's thunder - it does sometimes seem like she is the real flying fox.

Bombed a perfectly good lead role.

I am fine with the changes they have made to the characterisations so far. I thought this was one of Jin Yong's weaker novels in terms of characterizations. Original Nan Lan for example is super one dimensional - just a spoilt rich girl not willing to live a humble life. At least in this version they try to tell her side of the story. As for the hairstyle, I totally just totally love it, I laughed my ass off when I saw his (and Ma Xingkong's) hairdo. It captures the heart of Jin Yong. He hated the Qing and Manchu dynasties and this version of his heroes totally gives them the finger.

Yeah idk I don't like to watch trailers. Let's see but I won't mind even if it follows the novel.

I hope so too that she decides not to be a nun but I saw an article from early on in the drama shooting that says this will be a sad ending for all couples, true to Jin Yong's book. I really hope its not true. As for the hair, I have seen quite a few Qing dynasty shows where one or two characters don't shave their head. Realistic or not, this is not the only one. I think Liu Yu Ning's characters in the coming Heroes also doesn't shave his head.

Oops she did it again. I feel terrible bc Hu Yitian is doing great but Yuqi is living up to Yucky. Dropped in 1 episode.

To my memory Jin Yong never has any of his characters say such cheesy overused 3 words. I would have cringed if they did it in this adaptation.
