Thanks, I really enjoyed reading this. It is fantastic comparison of MRIAD and Checkmate. I also felt let down that both leads for Checkmate are cardboard characters and Situ Yan was written to be so colorless. I dropped MRIAD bc I just couldn't take any more of the FL and this "Lu Yao liking Bai Youning? Doesn't make a lick of sense." made me laugh.

Well hope you enjoy it anyway. The same guy places the emperor and he's pretty cool there too.

I know the story and I like it but not everyone will. That is all I am gonna say.

Lol I would love to be able to like her voice bc then I could have kept watching the show. I already pretty much said the same thing, probably a bit more on that board probably around ep 11 which is where I dropped it. No one attacked me, in fact I think many people said the same. Maybe the warriors had not gone there yet at the time. But in any case, I don't think fear of warriors should stop anyone from expressing their opinions. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

ADOS is more highly regarded by the snobby Douban community bc it is a truly empowering feminist drama that avoids a lot of drama clichés. It portrays women in a much better way than LLTG does. The love story is a mature one where the FL is a proper grown-up woman as opposed to LLTG where she only grows up at the very end. It won high praise also for the way it depicts the history and culture of the period and its focus on original themes and ideas.

What is less good about ADOS is the story is based on a short play. The screenwriter had to make everything else by up by herself and she is obviously not able to produce something comparable to LLTG which is based on a full novel written by a proper novelist. The humor also misses the mark some of the time and is not as good as LLTG. They both wobble a bit towards the end. I enjoyed both dramas. Even though I rate ADOS higher for objective reasons, I enjoyed watching LLTG a lot more.

She is supposed to be like that my friend. That’s also why lots of people don’t like the book. Watch for the emperors story and good luck! Remember that there is someone for everyone out there… even if he may be a psychopath like Ling Buyi!!! 😅😂

I don’t watch her anymore bc I don’t want to support her after she trashed ZZH but I saw the comments on her LLTG review were almost universally disagreeing with her. I suspect she was shocked and tried to make up for it by doing a nice one of LBAFD.

Thanks for your kind words and nah, not at all you are not getting old. We just all have different tastes and preferences.I love good stories and I truly think LBFAD is a very good story and the adaptation is very well done and it rightly so gives LLTG some real competition. I liked the story enough that even though I dropped the drama I ordered the novel and plan to read it. That doesn't change the fact that Esther Yu's voice acting in it is just simply dreadful. Don't kill me but objectively Lusi is also not the best at line delivery, enunciation and clarity either. Being live recorded does highlight her shortcomings in that department. But overall her tone is not completely off the way Esther's is AND she is being live recorded which is a lot harder. I don't read subtitles in any language I just rely on listening when I watch and bad voice acting is a deal breaker for me. In any case to each their own and I am kind envious of people who are able to enjoy LBFAD the way I am not able to.

I finished it and I liked it but not as much as most people. The FL and her voice and overall behaviour to be honest is something you either can get pass or not. I struggled with it immensely.

I dropped LBFAD after about 11 episodes. I couldn't take the FL voice that sounded like she sucked helium. I don't appreciate dramas where fully grown men chase baby dolls. That said Dylan Wang's acting was wonderful and the story is very good. If you can tune out the girl, its great. All that said AvenueX has bad taste in general.
