This is all rumor, she never commented on the role specifically but it was heavily rumored at the time that her agency made her do it. Tbh I dropped AOL bc I did not like her acting in it at all I found it super immature and annoying. In fact I have started but never completed any of YZ's dramas. Idk if I will complete IS but I will have to say that I think her acting has matured a lot and I did enjoy her acting in the first 2 episodes of this. I am also always willing to at least check out her dramas bc she is known to be one of the most gracious, down to earth stars in the business. I think its very hard for actresses to get good roles bc women are not well portrayed in c-dramas. Its a pity The Golden Hairpin didn't air bc that was a good FL role and Lost You Forever sounds pretty interesting too. I think the concern with IS was that it may be too similar to AOL and she shouldn't keep doing the same thing. Btw that is not my personal view I never finished AOL I am just repeating what I read at the time.

Which her do you mean - YZ or YM? Tbh, I think in xianxia, age doesn't matter bc all the deities are thousands of years old. Even when they are so called "young" deities they are hundreds if not thousands years old,, they don't need to be played by teenagers. But if rumor is right, YZ was not thrilled to accept this role and she changed agencies after she completed this. Career wise it is better for her to move on and try different roles rather than keep doing the same things. And to be fair to her, she has not done a huge number of xianxia either, just this and AOL in recent years.
Obviously YM just keeps milking her fame and has not done much to move out of the genre she keeps playing the same old same old 9 tailed fox the exact same way. Its not an age issue though, I think she is supposed to be thousands of years old, just like her Bai Qian was some ridiculous old age. And if these are the only lead roles she can still get at her age, its hard to blame her either bc she got criticized very hard for taking on a 16 year old role in Pearl Eclipse.
