This is spot on and I couldn’t agree more. The writer went too far in demonizing the mother to make CSS empathetic when they didn’t need to. The problem is not only does that make her dislikable, many of her actions are unfathomable and not in the least maternal. She becomes a two dimensional character that has excessive pride and ego.

Yeah the ending scene suggests maybe she is using reverse psychology on her perverse daughter bc CSS may have refused LBY if she approved! It’s possible or maybe we are just imagining it.

It’s ridiculous I am just waiting for LBY or CSS to call them out on it and say shame on you vicious b*tches you are no better in fact you are worse bc your mammas were not away defending the country.

The writing is not that consistent bc as even CSS points out, previously her mom was licking her teeth at the thought of LBY as her son-in-law and not the hapless LY. I thought she could see CSS has improved and I could have sworn I saw approval in her eyes at the way CSS handled the whole LY rejection. I was very disappointed that the character and their relationship went backwards like that for no good reason.

He is the idiot boy who pulls a girls pigtails in class because he likes her. He may be a great classical scholar but his courtship methods are crude and dumb.

I think he definitely planned it and he intended it to be fait accompli. He would never show up at that kind of event with a bevy of desperate women if CSS weren't there. He didn't seize the moment when he had the chance earlier on and he was not going to let another Lou Yao to pop up and steal his girl. I don't think however that he expected her mother to diss her like that. He just wanted to win the girl and was going to get the emperor to make it happen.

Considering her family's status, it is shocking she doesn't know the basic social courtesies. A less benevolent emperor (or in this instance one of his daughters) may have punished her and her family severely for her insolence and lack of manners. It reflects horribly on her mother which is why she gets blinded with rage every time CSS steps out of line. That said, I think all the girls in this drama are incredibly rude and behave very badly, I don't see how she is that much worse.
