Part 2 for TBW was IMHO much better than Part 1. What I mean is like TBW, Part 1 and Part 2 should be aired almost consecutively.

It is an old acting or photography trick of the trade - if. you suck it in, your cheekbones look cut. Idk for sure that is what he is doing and I love Wu Lei but I don't like his facial expressions in this. It looks too un-naturally stiff.

He is trying too hard to look older, cold and intense. Sucking in his cheekbones too much. Wish he wouldn't do that.

Yeah and I think they are so well written. Mothers always see daughters as a reflection of themselves. That is why they tend to be the toughest on their daughters, especially when they are so similar.

No they are different from Ning Yi and Fang Zhiwei who are both darker and more of a power couple. I suppose if you consider PDA the more important (they kiss more) then they beat Ning Yi and FZW but if not, then they are not quite that level.

Yeah I haven't seen any beating yet as I am only on #3 but I think its realistic for those times. You are judging them both on 21st century metrics which is fine but its not realistic.

Watch carefully - they are the same person and think the same way. Like mother like daughter, that is why she can bust her so easily. If she has a kid like herself one day down the road, she'd do the same thing.

I actually really like the mom, she is the only really likeable and really smart character so far. She gets what happened to her daughter and it pains her to be tough on her. But this girl is wild, defiant, cunning and vindictive. What she did to her granduncle could have gotten the entire family executed so that she could take her petty vengeance. It is sheer luck that LBY chose not to escalate the matter. And what if other Cheng's were involved in the plot? In those days, when one person commits high treason, the entire clan going back 9 generations can get executed. This girl may have been wronged and neglected but she is just out of control and doesn't see the big picture despite her intelligence. She even tries to undermine her mother with her hateful aunt because she resents being managed by her. If her mom doesn't set her right, she will cause all kinds of trouble down the road. In any case, her father seems super indulgent so I think it is a nice balance.

I have much less time to read novels nowadays, best I do is skim them afterwards if the drama is really good. Unless its a super popular novel I am unlikely to have read it ahead of the drama, sad to say.

Yes I hope so bc we have had so many "noisy" dramas this year I was afraid it was the beginning of a dreadful trend. I haven't read the novel either, which is great bc I like not really knowing the story.

In all seriousness I know that but writing the most annoying and awful support characters is a very lazy way to generate sympathy for the lead character.

I will admit it is not the best start. They are trying to be funny and idk why they try this with every Lusi drama bc while she is definitely funny, everyone else is not. It is a very long drama and we are still in the back story so IMHO its too early to drop. Also, it is not at all fair to say this is as bad as Rebirth For You bc that thing is an atrocity. This is so far just not quite living up to the hype.

I believe Lusi is speaking her own lines.
