It's your opinion, and you're entitled to it, of course. However, I heartily disagree with you. :-)

He was phenomenal in You Drive Me Crazy, which was before he got really famous.
You're certainly allowed your opinion, but I'm not really sure how someone could get that many roles (and that amount of critical success) only because of their dimples. I mean, I have dimples too but I don't get leads in dramas like he does....LOL.

It's not earth-shattering, and it's more realistic than sappy, but it's also very sweet and ends really well.

The American was so annoying that I had to stop watching this (and I'm an American myself!) Ugh. (Content warning for the next sentence: politics) Also I didn't need to be reminded that "T-word" (or "He Who Shall Not Be Named") was president just a year ago - I've tried to block it out completely.
But other than the man from Utah representing all of the US, it was interesting at times.

There are 8 episodes altogether? I wonder when the raw of 7 and 8 will get uploaded....(and I wonder when we'll get subs for 5 and 6.) Oh duh, I just looked at the drama details and saw that it is indeed 8 episodes. Reading is a helpful skill to have....LOL

And like I said in a comment before this one, the articles on MDL are often written by and commented on by koreaboos. And just because I love J-dramas (and AiB in particular) it doesn’t mean I’m a weeb. It’s insulting, actually. Those of us who love J-dramas aren’t constantly on K-drama pages talking shit like you and some others are here.

Have you never watched The Hunger Games or The Handmaids Tale or many other dystopian shows based on novels)? There is usually a grotesque element to it, including people way overdressed and wearing heavy makeup. AiB fits that perfectly, imo. Also it is definitely just your opinion about the acting - I thought it was quite appropriate for the setting and situation.
One last thing - you say you live in Japan, but I for one still didn’t appreciate the “typical cheesy/goofy Japanese stuff” comment. That is one giant unhelpful stereotype.

I haven't seen Squid Game yet, (and I will), but I rated AiB a 10, so that's how I felt about it. It's honestly a classic in the making. The second half leads us into the second season and others here have expounded really well on the imagery and symbolism of both parts, so I don't have to.
But I will say that I haven't seen enough praise here for one of my favorite pairings in all of dramaland: Kento and Tao. They continue to play off each other so, so well and it's easy to see that it's their third pairing.

Also, Murakami Nijiro deserves every word of praise that he gets!! He is absolutely possessed by Chishiya.
