True. For me, personally the romance between Jian Bu Zhi and Zhan Shi Qui was unnecessary. Just making it like a platonic relationship would have been enough so that there's enough space to explore other interesting characters. But I guess they added the romance to attract young viewers.

Couldn't agree more. Understanding the historical context helps us understand why he is what he is. Despite these shortcomings, he does possess some qualities e.g. he really cares about his subordinates and he cares about Xijun's reputation.
His character is supposed to contrast with Su Wu Ming to highlight their dynamic, creating funny banters, quips and more.

Oh yes I watched him in LOCH 2017. In fact, his Guo Jing is one of my favorites.

It's like watching Poirot and Batman duo. Su Wu Ming being Poirot and Lu LingFeng Batman. Su Wu Ming be like "I'll use my little grey cells". Lu Ling Feng be like WHACK! WHACK! 😂

Oh tell me about it. I didn't like Huang Rong in that version. They shouldn't have cast her. The only thing that kept me watching was that there are characters that I always adore such as Huang Yaoshi, Hong Qigong, and Zhou Botong.

I checked on douban. The 2017 LOCH has quite high rating with 8.0 despite tight budget. Very rare for a wuxia drama in the past 10 years or so.

I watched it because they used the theme song from the 1983 LOCH and Michael Miu was in it. Loved his version of Huang Yaoshi.

The fight scenes are surprisingly really good! I doubt that Yang Xu Wen does martial arts but his body movement looks very convincing.

He's my second favorite Guo Jing after Felix Wong.

I've watched 2 versions of the "The Four", the 2008 and 2015. Quite liked the 2008 version. It's a no-nonsense, more grounded crime/ detective/ politics type of wuxia. The 2015 one was quite the opposite. Not a fan of this version, in fact I hated it :D It seems they're going to make The Four again. I hope this time they'll make a better one.

I like wuxia that doesn't focus too much on the romance. I've heard of WOH but somehow I'm not interested to watch it.
Ancient Detective has some characters that I really liked such as Sima Dang and Zhao Wo Huan. Too bad they don't make second season. I think they should.

I watched First Sword of Wudang. I agree the fight scenes are good there. That's probably the only thing I liked about it.
