Just want to point out it isn't just AvenueX, almost all the well-known cdrama reviewers are avoiding to review…
Viewers can't deny it. It's really good drama.

Just read it. That was horrible... I feel really sorry for both...But a person is innocent until proven guilty…
I just watched a small part of the live stream. Yes, she did mention that if she watched it, she'd probably like it but she wouldn't watch it because of YXW. Well, I guess she will never watch any dramas that have him in them. Fair enough. Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

//1. Under the Chinese legal framework you are guilty until proven innocent. //
😲 In my country is the other way around. Someone is innocent until proven guilty.

//2. He was questioned but was never charged. Once charged the conviction rate in China is 99.96 pct. //
So, which means if there's new evidence in the future, he could be convicted or at least questioned again?

//There is no way to know what really happened but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that if i am wrong he will one day answer to a higher power. //
I'm with you. I mean I know that no legal system everywhere is perfect. Even in the US, it is reported that since 1973 there have been at least 190 people were wrongly convicted and were sentenced to death for crimes they didn't do. Convicting someone is not that easy. If there's not enough evidence, the result could be fatal. I'd say just trust the legal system no mater how imperfect it is.

//As for AX she believed ZZH should be cancelled for wandering pass a shrine. You can’t expect her to let something like this go!//
Sorry I'm not following the entertainment news closely but ZZH is an actor yes? I think I vaguely remember this news of a Chinese actor visiting Yasukuni shrine. But then she watched and reviewed Liu Yifei's Mulan despite the controversy surrounding the actress' statement. For someone who couldn't care less about the entertainment business just cares about good drama like me, I'm somehow befuddled as to where she stands really. I personally believe that a reviewer should be able to maintain their objectivity. It is the artist's work that matters, not the artist. e.g. I still like Ezra Miller's The Flash in Justice League despite the history of his numerous misconduct. I think he's a good actor although he's not a good person.
But of course again, AX is entitled to her opinion and view. And somebody mentioned she's doing YT voluntarily. I might still watch her reviews in the future if she reviews a drama that I watch.

It's not pure wuxia but it has wuxia element. Many Detective Di Renjie series or movies include wuxia element so I consider that this belongs to wuxia genre. Maybe a sub-genre?

Is AvenueX hesitant to watch this drama because of the ML Yang Xu Wen's case?https://www.jaynestars.com/news/chinese-actress-ren-jiao-falls-to-her-death-from-hotel-room/
Just read it. That was horrible... I feel really sorry for both...
But a person is innocent until proven guilty and it seems that was the case so why is she hesitant? Thought she liked detective dramas. She should know this principle. Unless the said person is proven guilty IMO a drama/movie reviewer should be able to maintain objectivity. Otherwise they may seem to be perpetuating cancel culture. And cancel culture can be very toxic to certain extent. e.g. what happened to Johnny Depp. If that's the reason she didn't watch.. well that's a shame..
But maybe there's a different reason. I've noticed that she hasn't done any review of wuxia dramas for quite a while. She did first impression of Heroes early this year but she didn't do final review of it. She also didn't do a review of Side Story of Fox Volant. Perhaps she's just not into this genre anymore..

Same lol I've dropped a lot of dramas of this genre when they suddenly turned into a romance.

Thank you for your kind words. I am happy you found this helpful I was worried it was too much background detail.…
Oh! I know Journey to The West series with Dicky Cheung. It was aired in my home country and it was huge! People loved it! Every time I hear Sun Go Kong or Sun Wukong, it's Dicky Cheung's that comes to mind.

I also don't have deep affection for these girls as much as I do for SWM, LLF and Chicken Fed. I feel that the writer tried their best to control the flow of the story so that it didn't get sidetracked towards romance which not a few dramas of this genre often do. Quite understandable. But I think the girls could have been better had the writer given them a few meaty lines that make me chuckle.

Personally, I think your explanation about zhiguai xiaoshuo is very interesting. I didn't know that this kind of literature dates back hundred years ago. Really fascinating!

I enjoyed reading your review as much as I enjoyed the drama. I find the historical context you gave really fascinating! As a non-Chinese (who doesn't speak the language either), this kind of information has made me love this genre even more! You're a great reviewer!

Happy ending? Have you seen Ancient Detective, The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty or The Imperial Coroner?
I may pick up The Imperial Coroner again someday, I don't know :) I did watch Ancient Detective and really liked it. But IMHO Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty is better than Ancient Detective for the same reason. SToTD's characters are more vibrant and have more depth. I adore all of the characters in SToTD ♥

Happy ending? Have you seen Ancient Detective, The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty or The Imperial Coroner?
Except for Ancient Detective, I haven't watched The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty or The Imperial Coroner. I did watch a couple of early episodes of those shows but somehow I dropped them. They didn't captivate me somehow.
On a side note, it's strange that YouTube Cdrama reviewers such as Marcus or AvenueX have never talked about Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty. AvenueX, for example, I believe, really liked Ancient Detective (she did a review of the show). It's odd that she didn't mention SToTD even once. Even though the drama is now trending on iqiyi. Is it because iqiyi isn't massively promoting it that those youtubers don't know?

Can someone tell me from your own perspective at which point this show picks up the pace. I love how this is filmed…
Personally I don't have a problem with the pace. It's perfect for me. Maybe because I like this genre, investigation + wuxia. I also enjoy the dynamics among the characters and the fight scenes. I'd rather have a drama that starts slightly boring but gets exciting as it progresses than the one that starts exciting but gets boring after 10 eps. If you like this genre, I'd suggest you keep watching.
