I think his curiosity will move him forward, Vegas and Pete turn each other's word upside down and by doing so they discover new things for themselves or are called to face their repressesd feelings. They feel more comfortable with themselves when they are in each other's company and I believe they won't let go of that feeling. They feel at home with each other and they will treasure this feeling. They will choose each other over anything. At least this is my take on the matter.
