Had to stop mid-ep 16 just to take note: Xiao Zhan losing kids in the market since 2019 (and counting) LOL.
I don't like how it's going between XCS and YGH... It's not just drifting apart, YGH DEFINITELY doesn't get XCS, and sadly, XCS is not really getting through either. It's sad HHL had to explain it to him, and even so, all he does is step wrongly in their eyes because he's too honest and acting on his convictions...
I guess TXM is heading to the military to become a field surgeon, and maybe she'll get to operate on XCS when the time comes...
Also, the whole family gimmick was HILARIOUS.
DL: XCS, you're good with kids. (Myself, roaring): Never saw him with A-Yuan, didja LOL ROFLMAO
XCS: Want a pinwheel? Kid: YES! XCS doesn't buy him a pinwheel. Myself (roaring): TOLD YA!!!!! ROFLMAO
XCS: Want to buy this? Kid: Yeah. Kid walks away. XCS: KID!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU KID!!!!! Myself (roaring): DAMMIT NOT AGAIN LOL ROFLMAO
I don't even care if they used those scenes for a tongue-in-cheek throwback, LOL, I was howling :D
Some while ago someone who was watching the NF version said there were some extra minutes in each ep. Did anyone watch the last few eps? Any new scenes?
I am really curious as for why China is so strict with censorship rules when it comes to dramas but it isn't such…
Actually, there is censorship for the books too. The danmei stories are published mainly in web format, and WHEN some of them get to be published in press / official format, the more risky parts are edited out. Some of the extras are published separatedly even for the web format. And none of the authors dare put their own, actual names on the books.
When they're licensed and released internationally, the 18+ parts are usually left in, but the Chinese public doesn't have access to those versions (officially, that is, I'm certain if there's a will there's always a way for them, too.)
And the censorship (regarding love or PDA scenes, anyway, not going to go through all the other restrictions) isn't only for danmei. There will be very few scenes in dramas that are not rom-com (even modern ones) where they dare go further than kissing and embracing.
As for why - I won't be a devil's advocate this time. There are always reasons for anything happening under the sun.
Okay i cried a bit during the final eps. But I'm still a little confused
It's the very first scene of the drama, too, LOL. PYY's grandfather fell and almost died then decided he would be selfish and not help spirits any more.
PYY fell too, had a chat with the ink spirit, and being the simple and kind-hearted person he is, he decided he WOULD continue to help spirits. He also has a strong support network - CGY, one-per, now his former school buddies... he can do it.
Basically, there are the gangsters (who make do with small time traffic and such and have no hope in heaven to…
I only now read up a bit about Lin Biao, and I didn't know the troop designation so couldn't tell. Thank you for explaining!
I know they kept dancing around the specific issue without clarifying what it was, precisely, and XCS's dad isn't imprisoned at the time, so I thought it had nothing to do with anything politically too murky (Lin Biao died in 1971, so there would have been some time between that and XCS's dad matter).
But then, this isn't a political drama, I guess the Chinese public would probably know what the issue was about from the details that are unexplained to the international public, and if the drama (particularly one involving the military) still got the right to air, I guess they won't go too deep down THAT rabbit hole anyway.
Basically, there are the gangsters (who make do with small time traffic and such and have no hope in heaven to…
A loafer (not the shoewear) is someone who gets to laze around waiting for something to happen LOL.
I don't know why the Chinese of the 70s did it, re: the cover for pillows... but in my country there was a period of extreme rationalization (everything, basically, was on a ration base per-person-need, even textiles.) Maybe they had to use it in order to spare less fabric for the pillow slips (it also involves less detergent and water for washing them, so double economy LOL). It just looks strange. There might be other reasons for it, but since they're all similar, I'm assuming this was how the military base issued their alloted personal inventory items.
Ok, Xiao Chun Sheng, your gf told you not to think of the girl in the library. Why did you keep the bookmark hmmm.…
He mistook HHL for TXM. He didn't really see her, but his friends pushed him to admit he's in love with a girl, and he said he HAD seen her and knows her, while looking at HHL. She obviously has no idea what he's talking about but TXM does and she thinks he isn't interested in HER anyway.
I can't wait to see him realising who the forbidden library girl actually is, LOL. I wonder how much of his initial interest in HHL came from imagining she's the book girl.
I wish I could read cultural commentary after every episode because I feel like so many things are going right…
Basically, there are the gangsters (who make do with small time traffic and such and have no hope in heaven to join the army - the get out of hell card for everybody in those times; people like Qi Tian and HeiZi and their gang) and the military base / compound kids, who are just waiting for the next chance to enroll.
To join the army, they had to pass political checks on their families and if anything wasn't admissable, they'd fail (XCS is waiting forever for his chance because his father is dealing with early onset dementia and the political bureau is checking infinitely to see if it affected his military decisions.)
And then there are the REAL gangsters (or the ones who really want to play it dangerously), like that Li guy, who just wants to see everybody fighting.
After a while, the restrictions relaxed a bit and by ep 12 you can see college admissions opening up again, people with "bourgeois" pasts being allowed to enter the army (at least the artistic troupe), and so on, and so forth.
XCS is that guy you want with you when the going gets tough, the one who will be THERE for everything, good or…
I like how YGH already grew up a bit and can contain his jealousy (if he has any left), and I like how fast Duan Lei and XCS went from rivals to friends, hahaha, if you can't beat them, join them LOL.
I keep expecting HHL to go wrong the worst one day and make XCS stand up and take measure. I hope it's not something to get in between his friendship with YGH.
TXM is still a bit stiff around them, but she's letting it off a bit now, since she's basically integrated with XCS's family. Poor girl, whenever the dad is mistaking her for HHL or anyone else, you can see her heart breaking.
I am loving Qi Tian and Xiao YanQiu's romance, LOL. He's already all in, and she doesn't see him as a man yet, but as a bodyguard - but she always takes notice where he is or isn't. He's not the hoodlum she thought he was, and she doesn't know how to react yet, but I have faith they'll get there.
The one I don't really like is HongJun. I know he's not at fault directly for HeiZi's eye, but he's a bit too wishy-washy and how Ye Fang acted didn't do him any favours either, poor guy. But he still should stand up for himself every once in a while, you know?
HeiZi's already safely under the thumb of his wife, LOL, RIP hooligan HeiZi hahaha.
I hope XCS gets at least a few years of happy time in the army before the incident shown in the ED song, so that he at least wouldn't have waited for so long for too little.
XCS is that guy you want with you when the going gets tough, the one who will be THERE for everything, good or bad. The peace maker and the pace setter :D

I want one, where do I get them? :D
